Procedure documentationEditing Technical System Information

You can create and edit a technical system in landscape management database (LMDB), manually. This can be necessary if there is no data supplier for a system, or if a firewall prevents the exchange of information.

For some system types, manual changes are required because, for example, information delivered by older data suppliers is no longer sufficient.

Note Note

Some information, like business partner information or additional attributes, can only be created manually in the technical system editor of the LMDB.

Apart from this exception, do not create or edit system information, manually. Manually created information can become inconsistent or obsolete.

Register technical systems automatically with data suppliers, as described in Registering Technical Systems Automatically by Data Suppliers.

Data from the System Landscape Directory (SLD) will no longer be updated by automatic synchronization if you changed it manually in the LMDB, because the rank of the LMDB is higher than that of the SLD. Data created manually must also be updated manually.

End of the note.

Prerequisites

To maintain technical system information, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

  • You have performed the basic configuration of the LMDB. For more information, see Setting Up the Landscape Management Infrastructure.

  • Synchronization between SLD and LMDB is active. For more information, see Registering Technical Systems Automatically by Data Suppliers.

  • You have completed the Managed Systems Configuration for the technical systems in SAP Solution Manager: Configuration (transaction SOLMAN_SETUP).

  • To display a technical system, you need the SAP_SYSTEM_REPOSITORY_DIS user role.

To create, change, or delete a technical system, you need the SAP_SYSTEM_REPOSITORY_ALL user role.

Procedure

Start transaction SM_WORKCENTERand choose Start of the navigation path Solution Manager Administration Next navigation step Landscape Next navigation step Technical Systems Next navigation step System Operations End of the navigation path.

You can also access the LMDB directly with transaction LMDB.

You have the option to create new technical systems and to edit exisiting ones.

Always save before you leave the technical system editor.

Incorrect information that was provided automatically must be corrected on the technical system itself. Then, the correct data will automatically be forwarded to the SLD and LMDB.

To avoid inconsistencies, only correct data manually in the LMDB in an emergency. Otherwise, deleted details of a technical system would be automatically restored by SLD synchronization. If you delete all the information for a technical system in the LMDB but not in the SLD system fragments will be restored, which cause issues. For more information, see Deleting Technical System Information.

The following information about technical systems can be added manually in the LMDB:

  • Installed product instances of systems that do not supply product information.

  • Installation number and system number of systems that do not supply these numbers.

  • Attributes, for example, the IT administration role, priority, lifecycle status, short description, and additional attributes.

You can configure the list of additional attributes in transaction SM34, in view cluster VC_LMDB_ADD_ATTR. For more information, see the help text in the maintenance window.

  • You can manage information about related business partners from the LMDB start screen (transaction LMDB) under Start of the navigation path Technical Systems Next navigation step Mass Maintenance of Business Partner Assignments End of the navigation path.

  • You can display information on licenses that are installed on the system on the Installed Licenses tab.
