Procedure documentationConfigure App: Several Metrics for One Managed Object

The app Several Metrics for One Managed Object shows several metrics or events, such as the CPU status, the file systems, and the paging on a host, for a managed object, to give you an overview of the selected metrics and events provided by the E2E Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI).

Note Note

As the display and configuration of metrics and events are nearly identical in this dashboard, they are both referred to as elements here, where information applies to both metrics and events.

End of the note.

You can determine which elements are displayed for which managed object. You do this in the configuration app.

Procedure

To configure an app for technical monitoring, call your dashboard and go to configuration mode (see Configuring Dashboards). You can go to the configuration screen of the app either by adding a new app to the dashboard or by choosing Edit for an app. To add a new app to display multiple elements for a managed object, to the dashboard, choose Add New App in the dashboard, and select the Several Metrics for One MO app from the Monitoring & Alerting Infrastructure category.

A wizard to configure the app then starts, in which you can make the following settings:

  1. First choose the managed object. All of the possible managed objects are displayed in a list. Since this list is limited to 100 entries, however, you can restrict it to the type of managed object and part of the object name by making the relevant settings and choosing the Filter pushbutton.

You can also use the * and ? wildcards to find the managed object; note that the search function is case sensitive.

    Example Example

You want to choose a specific technical instance of the system PRD. In this case, choose the Technical Instance entry in the dropdown list for the type of managed object and enter PRD as the name of the managed object. Since the technical instance name contains the name of the technical system, the relevant instances are displayed when you choose the Filter pushbutton.

    End of the example.

Select the required managed object and choose Continue.

  2. Next, you choose the required elements for the selected managed object. In this case, the elements that fulfill the following two conditions are displayed:

    • The element is part of the set of selectable elements shipped by SAP. This set contains a selection of key elements suggested by SAP for the System Monitoring monitoring use case. You can add your own entries to this set (see Extending the Set of Selectable Metrics).

    • This element exists for the selected managed object.

      Note Note

Note that the type of managed system determines whether an element exists. For example, the ABAP Dialog Response Type belongs to the Technical Instance type but not to the Technical System type.

      End of the note.

If too many elements are displayed, reduce the selection by entering part of the element name in the Metric/Event input field and choosing the Filter pushbutton.

Select the required elements and add them to the list on the right by choosing Add and confirming your selection with Confirm Selection.

  3. Repeat the step above until all of the required elements are in the Selected list. Note that the app can display a maximum of nine elements. If you want to display more elements, you need to distribute them among several app instances.

  4. To end the wizard, choose Apply.

  5. Your changes are only permanently saved when you choose Save Dashboard.
