Function documentationUsing Monitoring History

The Monitoring History shows the development of the CCMS monitoring infrastructure performance values which you selected in set-up, over time. It complements IT Performance Reporting, in which you can display the development of performance values which SAP has identified as particularly important, over time.

The monitoring history contain various periods, from the last few hours to the last few months, so you can see both the current, and the long-term development of the performance values. The values for each period are displayed in the appropriate level of detail.

Integration

The monitoring history is part of the Solution Manager System Monitoring work center.

Prerequisites

The monitoring history set-up is part of the IT performance reporting set-up (see Set-Up IT Performance Reporting).

Activities

You can call the monitoring history for an attribute or an alert.

  1. To call the monitoring history for an attribute:

    1. Choose Proactive Monitoring in the navigation bar in the System Monitoring work center.

    2. Choose a system from the list. Details of the selected system are shown below the list.

    3. Expand the subtree of the solution until the component, and select it, in the Components of System <SysID> area. A component can be an application server, a host or a database.

    4. The current status of the selected component is shown on the right. These are selected performance attributes from the monitoring infrastructure. For performance values with monitoring history, there is a (Display History) pushbutton in the History column. You can display the monitoring history with this pushbutton.

  2. To call the monitoring history for an alert:

    1. Choose Alert Inbox in the navigation bar in the System Monitoring work center.

    2. The alerts are grouped by solution. To display the alerts for a solution, choose Change, the solution, and OK. You can copy the solution.

    3. If there are alerts for the selected solution, they are output, grouped by measure. Select a row.

    4. Details of the selected alerts in the Alert Inbox are shown at the bottom of the window. Select the Alert Details tab.

If the alert has a monitoring history, there is a pushbutton to the right of the value. You can display the monitoring history with this pushbutton.

  3. The report is shown in a new window. You see the development of the measure over time. Which measure, from which system and in which period, is shown at the top of the window, with the diagram below that.

To adjust the data to the display:

    • Period

Specify the period to be reported. The periods are:

      • Last hours

      • Last days

      • Last weeks

      • Last Months

The period determines the time scale; e.g. the performance values are displayed per day for the period Last Days.

    • Measure

Specify the MTE class from which you want the history values to be displayed. The drop-down list contains the MTE classes for which there are history values in BI for the selected system. These are the MTE classe for IT Performance Reporting, and those which you specified explicitly in the monitoring history set-up.

    • Radio buttons Graphic, Graphic with Threshold Values and Table

Specify how the performance values are to be output, e.g. as Graphic or as a Table. You can also output your monitoring history as Graphic with Threshold Values. The background of the diagram is colored green (OK), yellow (Warning) and red (problem), so that you can see the status of the performance values in the displayed period.

    • Diagram

You can click on data items in the diagram to display the performance values in a larger time scale, if it is available in BI.

    • Instances

The displayed monitoring history refers to all instances in the selected system, by default. The instances for which there are values are shown in the Instances area. You can restrict the values displayed to one instance with the radio button.

    • Values

You can select the type of values to be displayed in the monitoring history. A data item is a period, you can choose between the Mean, Minimum and Maximum measured values for this pertod. You can also display the number of values measured in the period, with the Number of Values flag.

    • Filter values and query details

These two areas contain technical background information about the displayed performance values. As they are not relevant for analyzing the values, they are hidden, by default.
