Technical Monitoring Dashboard

To see the metrics and events determined by the E2E Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI), see the Technical Monitoring dashboard.

With MAI, you can display the performance and status of various managed objectsn in complex, heterogeneous landscapes, centrally, in ther Technical Monitoring work center. There are various monitoring use cases, including System Monitoring, which monitors the status and performance of technical systems, technical instances, hosts and databases, in the SAP Solution Manager system landscape.

The work center for experts displays a lot of managed system metrics, events and alerts. This is sometime a little unclear, particularly if you initially only need a few metrics and events. If so, use this dashboard.

As the display and configuration of metrics and events are nearly identical in this dashboard, they are both referred to as elements here, where information applies to both metrics and events.

This dashboard displays selected elements for managed objects, in a simple interface.

There are elements to be selected for the apps in this dashboard for the following topics:

Available space in the file system for various database types
Availability of technical instances, technical systems, and databases
CPU usage, memory space, file system and paging rate for hosts
Response times, status and usage of dialog system, for technical systems and instances
Status, usage and errors in background processing for technical systems
ABAP run-time error status
Number of users logged on, per system and instance

There are two apps for the dashboard:

One Metric for Several Managed Objects
Use this app to display an element for various managed objects, such as the availability of your most important ABAP systems.
Several Metrics for One Managed Object
Use this app to display several elements for one managed objec, such as the status of the CPU, file systems and paging on a host.

Call the dashboard

The role SAP_SM_DASHBOARDS_ADMIN has authorization to call dashboards and configuration apps. To be able to call the Technical Monitoring dashboard, the authorization object Solution Manager Dashboard Instance (technical name SM_DSBINST) in the dashboard authorization group must have the value MAI. In this case, the Technical Monitoring Dashboard is added to your SAP Easy Access user menu in the Default Dashboards folder.

To put the Technical Monitoring dashboard in your Favorites, in the SAP Easy Access screen, manually, proceed as follows:

In the SAP Easy Access menu, call Favorites Add Other Objects .
From the list in the Restrictions screen, choose Web-Dynpro Applications.
On the Web Dynpro Application screen, in the Web Dynpro Application field, enter the name generic_dashboard_viewer.
Enter a description, for example Technical Monitoring Dashboard.
Insert a row in the table Parameters, in the Name column, enter ALIAS, and enter MAI_METRICS_OVERVIEW in the Value column.

The first time you call the dashboard, these two apps are called, with an example configuration. The following apps are displayed:

The events ABAP Short Dumps, ABAP Job Errors and Availability (ABAP System) are displayed for the SAP Solution Manager ABAP system.
For the event Availability (ABAP System), this value is displayed for the SAP Solution Manager system.

Integration

When Technical Monitoring and Interactive Reporting are set up, the Technical Monitoring dashboard contains two example apps, which are provided with data. Configure these apps to your requirements, by adding more elements (Configure App: Several Metrics for one Managed Object) or managed objects (Configure App: One Metric for Several Managed Objects). You can add app instances to the dashboard (see Configuring Dashboards).

Note Note

The Technical Monitoring dashboard is of type Personalized, so each user has his own dashboard instance. If a user changes the configuration, it does not affect another user of this dashboard.

If you want there to be only one instance of this dashboard (type General), for example because you want to forward the configured dashboard, create a new dashboard with the Technical Monitoring dashboard attributes, and set the type (see Creating and Editing Dashboards).
