Procedure documentationSetting up Process Integration Monitoring

To set up PI Monitoring, you perform several preparation steps.

Procedure

1. Setting up the system landscape for each PI domain (Synchronizing SLD and LMDB)

You have the following options:

  • Synchronize the PI SLDs of multiple integration server with the SAP Solution Manager LMDB

  • Synchronize the content of multiple PI SLDs with a central SLD, unidirectionally and then synchronize the central SLD with the SAP Solution Manager LMDB.

Recommendation Recommendation

To avoid data inconsistencies, set up a central SLD.

End of the recommendation.
  • To copy and merge the individual PI configurations of each PI domain in a central SLD CIM namespace, follow the instructions in SAP Note 1631346Information published on SAP site.

  • To synchronize multiple PI domain SLD with the SAP Solution Manager LMDB, separately, contact the SAP support.

2. Configuring the managed systems

Managed System Configuration for all managed systems inside SAP Solution Manager is a prerequisite for all monitoring use cases.

You configure the managed systems in Solution Manager Configuration under Managed Systems Configuration.

Configuring managed systems is a series of steps. For more information on each step, see the detailed help documenatation in SAP Solution Manager Configuration. The steps in configuring managed systems are as follows:

  1. Select a product to assign one the following:

    • SAP NETWEAVER 7.1: Process Integration

    • SAP EHP1 FOR SAP NW PI 7.1: Process Integration

    • SAP NETWEAVER 7.3: Process Integration

    • SAP EhP1 FOR SAP NETWEAVER 7.3: Process Integration

  2. Connect Managed System (ABAP only)

    Note Note

For double stack systems, e.g. Integration Server, the LMDB automatically creates technical scenarios of type “Double Stack”. You use those scenarios for configuration of double stacks.

    End of the note.
  3. Assign Diagnostic Agent

  4. Enter System Parameters

    Note Note

For Decentral Adapter Engines (Technical Systems of type Java), it is very comon in PI to use the ABAP Stack of Integration Server for Central User Administration. You can enter the required data by setting the flag Mark if system has a ABAP User Store.

    End of the note.
  5. Create Users

  6. Configure Automatically

3. Setting up System Monitoring

Setup of System Monitoring for all systems in the PI Domain is a requirement for PI Monitoring Setup. You configure system monitoring in Solution Manager Configuration under  Technical Monitoring -> System Monitoring.

For more information on each step, see the detailed help documenatation in SAP Solution Manager Configuration. The steps involved are as follows:

  1. Choose relevant systems

  2. Choose Monitoring Templates

  3. Assign and Activate

4. Setting up PI Monitoring for each PI domain

The PI domain with all its PI components must be known to SAP Solution Manager for central PI Monitoring. PI domain is modeled as Technical Scenario based on LMDB data of PI domains. Various PI domains can be created

You configure the PI monitoring in Solution Manager Configuration under Technical Monitoring -> PI Monitoring.

PI monitoring setup is a series of steps. For more information on each step, see the detailed help documenatation in SAP Solution Manager Configuration. The steps involved are as follows:

  1. Define scope.

    1. Choose the PI Domain to be used for PI Monitoring setup

      • Pick relevant PI domain from list or create new PI domain (based on LMDB data)

      • You can also maintain existing PI domains (based on LMDB data)

      • PI Domains listed here are taken from LMDB (onlythose, with PI releases >7.11 SP06)

      • Start setup procedure for PI Monitoring

    2. Define or maintain a Technical Scenario

      • Existing Technical Scenario of type PI_DOMAIN is prerequisite for all monitoring used cases

      • Technical scenario is based on LMDB Data for PI domain (synchronized from PI SLD)

      • You can exclude Technical Systems from Technical Scenario (in case those systems should not be monitored)

    3. Setup PI Domain Overview

    4. Check PI Component Availability

    5. Perform PI Component Self test

    6. Check Channel Availability

    7. Setup message flow monitoring

    8. Activate
