Process documentationConfiguration of SAP Solution Manager Scenarios

The SAP Solution Manager Configuration work center is based on a guided procedure framework. SAP Solution Manager Configuration is organized into scenarios. A scenario can contain sub-scenarios. A scenario or sub-scenario contains steps, which then contain the configuration activities.

The following areas are available by default in the SAP Solution Manager Configuration work center:

With the Personalize pushbutton, you can adapt the work center to your needs. You can, for example, define SAP GUI settings, hide the help section, or define save options.

When you log on to SOLMAN_SETUP for the first time, use the DDIC or SAP* user. In the System Preparation scenario, in the Create Users step, you create the Solution Manager administration user (by default solman_admin).

Note Note

For security reasons, SAP recommends using the Solution Manager administration user for further configuration, not the DDIC or SAP* user. If you use the DDIC or SAP* user, the system displays a popup every time you start SOLMAN_SETUP. You can disable this popup using the Personalize options.

End of the note.

  1. To perform the basic configuration of SAP Solution Manager, the user starts transaction solman_setup.

    Note Note

If the user has already executed the Basic Configuration scenario, the SAP Solution Manager Configuration work center is available and can be started.

    End of the note.
  2. The system displays all configuration scenarios in the scenario menu. In the content area, the Overview scenario is displayed.

  3. The user selects a scenario from the scenario menu.

    Note Note

For new installations or upgrades, execute at least the configuration scenarios System Preparation, Basic Configuration, and Configuration of Managed Systems.

    End of the note.

In the roadmap area, the configuration steps of the scenario are displayed.

The first step of the guided procedure is preselected. In the help area, the help text for the step is displayed.

  4. To work on the configuration activities, the user selects the Edit pushbutton in the roadmap area.

The scenario is locked for other users during editing.

  5. In the content area, the user works on the configuration activities. Each step of the guided procedure contains custom, automatic, or manual activities:

    • Custom activities are those that you perform directly in SAP Solution Manager Configuration. For more information, see the help section of each custom activity.

    • Automatic activities are carried out automatically by the system. If your organization requires, the user can perform these activities manually.

    • Manual activities are those that you have to do yourself by navigating to a certain transaction or screen.

For more information, see Performing Automatic and Manual Activities.

    Note Note

In certain steps, you can switch between standard mode and advanced mode. Some features are only available in advanced mode.

    End of the note.
  6. The log area provides detailed information on the configuration activities. The log entries are categorized by type, for example, Error, Information, and Warning. For more information on the status of configuration activities, see Calculation of Configuration Status.

  7. To navigate to the previous or next step of the scenario, the user chooses the Previous and Next pushbuttons in the roadmap area. In edit mode, the system saves the changes automatically.

    Note Note

You can adapt the saving options to your needs using the Personalize options.

    End of the note.
  8. The Complete step of each scenario provides an overview of the activities performed in the configuration scenario. The user chooses the Finish pushbutton to save the settings and close the scenario.
