Check items enable the rating of Analysis Structure Nodes during analysis. The rating is based on the results of check steps assigned to the check items. You can assign any number of check steps to each check series. You can assign any number of check items to a structure node.

The Solution Documentation Assistant shows the check items of a structure node in the Check Rules area of the Analysis Project View. You can check whether and how many check items are assigned to a structure node, and create or edit check items.

Prerequisites

You have opened the Check Rules Display for a node of the analysis structure.

Features

The check items are displayed in one table: The table header shows the type and name of the node to which the check items in the list are assigned.

If no check items are yet assigned to the selected structure node, the table is empty.

For each check item, the standard view of the table displays:

  • Name assigned to check item when created

  • User who created the check item

  • Type of check item, selected when created:

    • Identifying check items determine the rating of the node in the analysis. Ratings include: Active, Inactive, No Result, Not Analyzed. The rating for an identifying check item depends on the rating for the assigned check steps and the logical links between the check steps.

For more information about linking check steps with the logical operators AND or OR, and about determining the status of identifying check items, see Analysis Results of Check Items.

    • Referencing check items derive the rating of a structure node from the rating of its higher-level structure node.

The rating for a business process step is derived from the rating of the business process, and the rating for the business process is derived from the rating of the business scenario.

      Example Example

Referencing check items can be used, for example, for manual business process steps that are performed outside the system. For example, placing an invoice in an envelope and sending it could be derived from the Create Invoice business process.

      End of the example.

If the higher-level structure node is rated as Active, the referencing check item is also rated as Active. In all other cases, the referencing check item is rated as Not Analyzed.

      Note the following restrictions:

      • You can assign only one referencing check item to a structure node.

      • You cannot assign more check items to a structure node via a referencing check item.

      • You cannot assign check steps to a referencing check item.

      • You can only assign a referencing check item to a structure node in the following cases:

        • The structure node has a higher-level structure node.

        • The higher-level structure node can be rated.

    • Informative check items only provide information and do not influence the rating.

      Example Example

You create SQL check steps in two stages: In a first step, you create an informative check item with descriptive SQL check steps. SQL check steps of the Descriptive subtype return a table, not a value. The table allows you to specify the table fields or values whose existence you can check. In the second step, you create corresponding identifying check steps to actually check the existence of the table fields or values.

For more information about informative and identifying SQL check steps, see Creating SQL Check Steps.

      End of the example.

Activities

  1. To create, edit or delete a new check item, choose Edit.

    • To add a check item:

      1. Choose Create.

      2. Enter the name of the check item.

      3. Save your entries.

The Create pushbutton becomes active in the table of assigned check steps, and you can assign check steps to the check item.

      Note Note

If you create a new check item, it is automatically assigned to the structure node whose check item table you have opened. The name of the node is in the header of the check item table.

      End of the note.
    • To delete a selected check item, choose Delete.

      Note Note

If you delete a check item, you delete all its assignments, including the assignment of check steps. The check steps remain in the rule database.

      End of the note.
    • To change the name of the check item, choose the name.

    • To change the check item type, open the input help and choose a type.

    • Save the newly created check item or changes to an existing check item.

  2. Save your entries.
