This part of SAP Library gives you an overview of the changes and new features in SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SP10 since SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SP08.

This information is provided as release notes, which are structured by Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) processes. The following table gives you an overview of new, enhanced and deleted functions in the Application Operations process.

Message Flow Monitoring

New

In an SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (PI) landscape, Message Flow Monitoring (MFMon) monitors the status of business-critical message-based transactions, centrally. A business power user, for example, can check the status of B2B or A2A processes without needing to access a PI system. An application supporter can monitor the message flows, for example, to identify the root cause of failed message flow instances and resolve issues.

Message Flow Monitoring

Workflow Monitoring

New

Workflow Monitoring allows you to use the technical monitoring framework in SAP Solution Manager to monitor custom Business Processes.

Workflow Monitoring

Self-Monitoring of the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure

Enhanced

A new system view is available grouping the self-monitoring metrics by the managed technical systems.

Self-Monitoring of the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure

Technical Monitoring Directory Browser

Enhanced

New navigation options and new information on managed object level (managed objects tags and collection parameter variables) are available.

Unified Job Monitoring

New

Unified Job Monitoring allows you to monitor all the business-critical background jobs such as ABAP jobs and BW process chains, centrally.

Job Monitoring

Interface Channel Monitoring

Enhanced

The following connection types have been added:

  • tRFC, qRFC, bqRFC

  • SAP NetWeaver Gateway service

  • IDoc Communication

  • File system (FTP-based communication)

  • Communication with systems which are not registered in the SAP Solution Manager Landscape Management Database (LMDB), such as third-party systems, Mobile devices, agents

Interface Channel Monitoring

Interface Channel Monitoring

Enhanced

To be able to monitor the availability of web services, a script wizard helps you to create an End User Experience Monitoring (EEMon) script simulating SOAP requests.

Creating an EEMon Script for SOAP Requests

End User Experience Monitoring

Enhanced

You can create views for static monitoring. This is useful if you want to use view to configure an operations control center, for example. In this way, you can, for example, monitor the status of a certain critical step of a business process.

Locking a View for Static Monitoring

End User Experience Monitoring

Enhanced

To control the execution of EEMon scripts, you can activate or deactivate the monitoring for selected work modes, for example non-business hours.

Activating Monitoring for Global Work Modes

End User Experience Monitoring

Enhanced

To ensure that only SLA-relevant data is collected, EEMon allows you to define work modes on the level of robots executing scripts at certain locations. The EEMon scripts are executed according to the work modes you activate, for example only during the local business hours.

Defining Local Work Modes for SLA Reporting

End User Experience Monitoring

Enhanced

When specifying how and under what conditions availability and performance alerts are to be generated, you can choose the Worst rating of last N best events event propagation rule. It allows you to filter outliers without setting less restrictive threshold values. This increases the significance of the alerts and is useful if the worst case rule generates too many alerts due to random spikes during monitoring.

Data Volume Management

Function

Type of Change

Description

More Information

Decision Maker

New

You use the Decision Maker function to determine which objects consume the most data in your systems. You use the results of this analysis to rank and prioritize objects for Data Volume Management.

Decision Maker

Reorganization and Compression

New

The Reorganization and Compression function simulates technical data volume reduction processes, such as reorganization and compression of database tables and indexes.

Reorganization and Compression

Impact and References

New

The Impact and References function helps you to determine the links between technical objects, such as tables and archiving objects, and business-related information, such as processes, steps, transactions, and reports.

Service Availability Management

New

You can report SLA-relevant downtimes of managed objects (technical systems on which business-critical business transactions are performed, for example) based on data which is adjusted by system administrators so as to match the actual end-user experience. In this way, SAP Solution Manager can be used as single source of truth for Service Level Agreement (SLA) reporting of system downtimes.

Service Availability Management

Guided Procedure Authoring

New

You can create guided procedure to support processes which are performed periodically. Perform, for example, guided procedure-based daily system checks.

Self-Diagnosis Alerts

New

Self-Diagnosis displays alerts, in the following level of detail:

  • Solution-Specific Alerts

  • SAP Solution Manager Alerts (previously known as Cross-Solution Alerts)

Description

More Information

ABAP Update Errors exception category

New

You can monitor update errors with exception management.

Exception Management

Configuration

New

You configure exception management within the application itself, not in SAP Solution Manager Configuration (solman_setup transaction).

Guided Procedure Authoring

New

If processes fail repeatedly, to simplify the error handling you can create guided procedures.

Guided Procedure Authoring (GPA)

Coupling to the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure

New

To use the central SAP Solution Manager Alert Inbox to view and handle alerts, and to automatically create notifications and incidents for exceptions, you have to explicitly couple exception management to the Monitoring and Alerting Infrastructure (MAI).
