A logical component is an administration unit which uniquely assigns systems to system roles for a product, throughout the system landscape and across projects.
If you are using a logical component in the Solution Manager system landscape, you assign a logical system to an ABAP-based product instance in a logical component. You assign a non-ABAP-based product instance the product system to whose group the technical system belongs on which the product instance is installed.
You have defined logical components in the Solution Manager System Landscape (transaction SMSY) (see Editing Logical Components).
