The End-to-End Analysis item in the navigation area enables access to the applications associated with end-to-end analysis. To access the applications, click the corresponding pushbutton in the navigation area.

Prerequisites

You have verified the availability and limitations of SAP Solution Manager Diagnostics as described in SAP Note 1010428. You have called the Overview in the Root Cause Analysis work center.

Features

  • The End-to-End Analysis content area initially displays a tabbed panel with a list of All Technical Systems. Other tabs contain the lists of ABAP Systems and Java Systems, where the list content is prefiltered using the defined system types.

You can define queries and set filters to select data.

  • The following End-to-End Analysis applications are available for the selected systems:

    • Change Analysis: This application gives a top-down view of all changes to configuration parameters for solution systems. This includes, for example, information about the number, type, and time of changes. End-to-end change analysis gives an overview of the changes using BI-based analyses.

For more information, see: Change Analysis.

    • Exception Analysis: The exception analysis tool can be used in two different use cases. The first use case is an exception trend analysis, which covers the system behavior over an extended time period. This can detect if, for example, a single component in the solution creates a particularly high number of errors. Alternatively, the exception trend analysis can also determine whether the solution has a higher rate of error occurrence after a change has been made to one of the solution components (for example, patches, support packages, changes to configuration). The second use case is the identification of the specific component where the error occurred, once the exact point in time of the incident is known.

For more information, see: Exception Analysis.

    • Trace Analysis: The most common use case of the trace analysis tools is to identify user requests with long execution times within a complex system landscape. The analysis application includes features to analyze across the complete solution landscape, so that a component causing a problem can be isolated and the root cause can be identified. The response times of each component involved in request execution and the request path through the involved components are therefore provided for a detailed analysis.

For more information, see: Trace Analysis.

    • Workload Analysis: The workload analysis application gives an overview of the performance parameters of your complete solution. Using this information, you can check for a generic performance bottleneck in a system landscape. The actual analysis of the performance bottleneck uses the component-specific tools available for ABAP workload, J2EE workload, or operating system resource analysis.

For more information, see: Workload Analysis.

    • Introscope: The pushbutton launches the external Introscope application in either a Workstation or Webview context.

For more information, see: Performance Metrics Monitoring with Introscope by Wily.

Activities

You can start different end-to-end analysis applications and view their results. To start an application, select one or more systems from the Detailed Selection list and click the application pushbutton. If multiple systems are selected, the resulting output for each system is displayed on its own tab. To close the application, click the index of the selected tab, and confirm the dialog box.

  • Change Analysis gives an overview of the changes applied to the managed systems.

  • Exception Analysis acts as a starting point for analyzing functional problems within a solution landscape

  • Trace Analysis runs and evaluates component traces to identify long running user requests within a complex system landscape

  • Workload Analysis gives an overview of the performance parameters of your complete solution

  • Introscope applications are external monitoring tools for performance metrics.
