Specify the following, so that the system can monitor the job:

  • Identifying attributes of the job (Job Name, Program and User Name in the managed system under which the job runs)

  • Start time and job monitoring interval

For more information about configuring the monitoring of simple jobs, see the SAP Service Marketplace, under   http://service.sap.com/bpm   Media Library   Technical Information   Setup Guide: Business Process Monitoring   (English only).

Prerequisites

You are in the Edit Monitor Object view. For more information, see Configuring Job Monitoring.

Procedure

  1. Choose the Identification tab.

  2. Enter the following data:

    Note Note

The fields are not active if you called the Job Monitoring from the job documentation.

    End of the note.
    • Job Name: Name of the background job. The job name identifies the background job.

    • Step no.: Number of the step in which a program runs.

    • ABAP Program (optional): If you identify the background job in an ABAP program which is executed in a step of the background job, put the step number in the Step Number field.

    • Variant: Name of a variant of the ABAP program.

    • External Program (optional): If you identify the background job in an external program which is executed in a step of the background job, put the step number in the Step Number field.

    • User: Background job user. All users are used for identification, by default.

    • Start Procedure: Specify the background job start method.

      Example Example

You have scheduled the job from the job documentation using the BC-XBP interface and the Date/Time starting method. Now specify Date/Time as the starting method for the job monitoring.

      End of the example.

      Note Note

The starting procedure affects which alert types are available. For more information, see Configuring Alerts.

      End of the note.
    • Event ID: If you choose the start method By Event, specify the event ID.

    • Event parameters: You can specify event parameters if you selected start method After Event.

    • Previous Job: If you choose the start method After Event, specify the event ID.

    • Parallel Jobs: If the jobs are processed in parallel, specify whether the number of parallel jobs is known:

      • If a specified number is expected, choose Yes, Number Known.

      • If the number is not known (because the background jobs are, for example, scheduled dynamically, and the number can vary), choose Yes, Number Unknown.

      • If the background jobs are not processed in parallel, choose No.

    • Job Rule: If you use customer-specific rules, specify an existing three-digit rule number.

  3. To ensure that your entries are sufficient to identify the background job, choose Check Identification Data. Correct the identification attributes if the system does not find a job.

  4. Under Scheduling, specify whether the job monitoring is to run weekly or monthly:

    • Weekly job monitoring: In the Weekdays screen area, you specify on which days of the week job monitoring is to be active.

      Note Note

The selection is allowed to differ from the job scheduling.

      End of the note.
      1. Select the days of the week.

      2. If you have chosen the start method By Time, in der column Planned Start Time, enter the time, in the format hh:mm:ss.

      3. If the data is to be checked periodically, several times a day, specify the interval in the column Period (minutes), in the format mm.

    • Monthly job monitoring: In the Calendar screen area, you enter the settings for the factory calendar.

      Note Note

In the SAP system, location-specific calendars (such as the factory calendar) can be defined. These calendars can incorporate both regional holiday regulations and location-specific company regulations.

      End of the note.
      1. Under Calendar, you enter the ID of the factory calendar. If you do not enter any ID in the Calendar field, the system assumes that every day in the month is a working day.

      2. Under Day and Relative to, you specify how many days from the start or end of the month the job monitoring is to be performed.

      3. Under Period, you specify the interval at which the job monitoring is to be repeated, for example, every two months.

      4. Under First Month, you enter the first month the system is to consider the scheduling of the job monitoring.

  5. In the Data Collection screen area, under Critical Job, enter the relevance of the job to be monitored:

    • Critical Jobs: The system monitors jobs in shorter intervals than non-critical jobs. You define this time interval in the business process monitoring session (default setting: 5 minutes). The infrastructure of the business process monitoring monitors non-critical jobs only every 60 minutes.

    • Status notification by external scheduler (SMSE Push): Set this checkbox if you use an external scheduler. SAP Solution Manager is then informed about status changes of the job.

  6. Save your entries.
