The Reorganization and Compression function simulates technical data volume reduction processes, such as reorganization and compression of database tables and indexes. The function then uses the results of the simulation to generate a graphical overview of the potential data volume reductions to help you decide which processes to perform.

The Analysis List displays previously created analyses. You choose New Analysis to open the guided procedure. You select systems for which you want to run the analysis. You can only perform an analysis of the entire system; you cannot select specific tables to analyze.

Note Note

Systems are only available for selection if you have set up the DBA Cockpit connection in the Managed System Configuration view in SAP Solution Manager Configuration.

End of the note.

You choose the following processes as metrics:

  • Table Compression

  • Index Compression

  • Table Reorganization

  • Index Reorganization

The Result tab page displays completed system analyses.

In the Metrics screen area, a pie chart shows the total size of the selected system and the potential data reduction if you perform the corresponding process. Only one chart is displayed for each system. Each time you perform a new analysis using different metrics, the results are added to the existing pie chart. You can also display the results in a stacked chart or table.

You generate a list of specific objects to reduce and filter the list according to certain criteria, for example, you display the 25 largest objects.

Prerequisites

  • A DBA Cockpit connection is set up in SAP Solution Manager Configuration, in the Managed System Configuration view.

Features

  • Simulate data volume management to identify the most suitable method

  • Generate statistical information to see how much data you could save

  • Filter objects to prioritize which objects most need data volume management
