To create a test script, you either record a sequence of steps or compose an eCATT or a Component-Based Test Automation test script out of other reusable test scripts each representing a certain step. When composing an eCATT test script, you can use eCATT scripts and/or third-party test scripts. When composing a Component-Based Test Automation test script, you can use Component-Based Test Automation test components.

Prerequisites

You have called the Test Management work center.

Procedure

  1. Under Test Repository, choose the Test Scripts subview.

  2. To specify the SAP Solution Manager context, choose Set Default Context.

    The specification of the SAP Solution Manager context allows the system to derive the physical system, to which the logical component points, automatically.

    A dialog box appears.

    1. Select an SAP Solution Manager Project or a solution.

      To work on a test script without already being connected to a project or solution, choose Global System Landscape.

    2. Select a system role.

      Note Note

      The system role is user-specific. Another user can use the same system data container with another system role without having to change the RFC destination manually.

    3. To confirm, choose OK.

  3. Choose Create.

    A dialog box appears.

  4. Enter data as required.

    • Test Script: Enter a technical name (up to 30 characters, no blanks allowed)

    • Test Tool: To be able to select a third-party test tool, the test tool must be installed on the SAP systems under test (SUT) and registered to SAP Solution Manager. For more information, see

    • Title: Enter a short description according to the naming conventions of your organization.

    • Package: Select a transportable package.

    You go to the Test Script screen.

  5. Edit the test script attributes. For more information, see Maintaining SAP and Tool-specific Attributes on the Attributes Tab Page.

  6. Optional: To log on to the target system to be tested without executing the executable, choose Logon.

    Example Example

    You do not want to start from the very first screen of a transaction, or, before recording, you want to ensure in the system that sufficient material is in stock for creating a sales order.

  7. To record the script, choose the Start <Test Tool> pushbutton.

    If you have chosen eCATT as the test tool, you go to the eCATT Test Script Editor screen. For more information, see Test Script Editor.

    If you have chosen Component-Based Test Automation test tool, the Test Creation Wizard is started. For more information, see Recording a Test Script Using Component-Based Test Automation.

    If you have chosen a third-party test tool, the third-party test script creation process is started.

  8. If you have recorded a test script with a third-party test tool or edited a test script with eCATT, choose the Refresh pushbutton to synchronize the test tool or eCATT and the Test Composition Environment.

    The Test Composition Environment is updated with the results of the recording. The test script parameters, if defined, are displayed on the Parameters tab page.

    Caution Caution

    If you do not refresh the data, the data recorded by the external tool or eCATT is not displayed. In case of an eCATT test script you may overwrite the values which you have set in eCATT editor if the latest values are not displayed.

  9. To compose an eCATT or Component-Based Test Automation test script manually out of various test scripts, choose the Test Script tab page. For more information, see Composing Modular Test Scripts on the Test Script Tab Page.

  10. Optional: If you use Component-Based Test Automation, you can edit the test script parameters. For more information, see Defining the Test Script Interface on the Parameters Tab Page.

  11. To ensure that the test script can later be found easily, you can enter search terms. For more information, see Defining Search Terms on the Search Terms Tab Page.

  12. Save your entries.

  13. Optional: To execute an eCATT test script in the eCATT start option screen, choose Execute. For more information, see Start Options.

  14. Optional: To use advanced functions to edit the test script, choose   Goto   Expert mode  .
