Language Import with Transaction SMLT 

Process Flow

You can use transaction SMLT to import language packages. This can be general language packages (SAP Note 330104), Add-on language packages, or customer language packages.

The languages English and German are complete in all newly installed systems. You therefore do not need to import them into installed systems.

       1.      Go to the language for which you want to install extra packages and choose  or Language → Import Package.

       2.      In the next dialog box, enter the path for the language packages. Choose Search Package(s). The system then searches for the existing packages in the specified path.

Alternatively, you can search for packages locally by choosing Load from Front End.

       3.      The green, yellow and red lights next to the packages indicate whether you can import them. Click the lights to display extra information.
A green light indicates that all import conditions are met. A yellow light indicates that there are warnings. A red light indicates that the package cannot be imported because checks have detected errors.

       4.      Select one or more language packages with green or yellow lights for import.

       5.      After you have specified a start time and target server (optional), choose Execute to import the language package(s) you have selected.

The language transport is performed in three steps:

                            a.      The language package is unpacked in a background job. The background job is then ended.

                            b.      The import tools R3trans and tp import the language data into the system.

                            c.      Any required follow-up activities are performed in a new background job.

All activities are logged in the action log.

       6.      An import action is created for the appropriate language on the overview screen in transaction SMLT. There are various functions in the overview for managing and monitoring the import.

These functions are represented by the following icons:

	Display transport logs
	Display job information
	Display action log
	Restart the action if it has terminated for technical reasons
	Display more information about the package

       7.      The icon at the start of the line indicates the status of the import.

The icons have the following meanings:

	The import was completed without errors.
	The import has completed. Warnings have been issued, however. For more information about these warnings, see the transport logs.
	The import has completed, but transport errors have occurred in the objects. For more information about these errors, see the transport logs.
	The import has been scheduled. Choose  to display job information, such as the start time and target server.
	The import is currently running.
	The import has terminated for technical reasons. To find out the cause of the error, see the job log (choose ).
	The import is active. The transport control program is running. The language transport is waiting until the language data has been imported, and will then continue.

       8.      If an action terminates for technical reasons, you can restart it. For more information about this function, see Restarting an Action.

As described above, you can import multiple languages in parallel. Depending on the performance of your SAP System, importing multiple languages in parallel might place a heavier load on the system than a sequential import.

       9.      After importing the languages, you also need to import the language data contained in the Support Packages, EHPs, and Add-on packages. To do this, perform the following steps:

a)       Call transaction SMLT.

b)       Select a language.

c)       Choose Language → Special Actions → Import Support Packages.
