Function documentationException Management: Monitoring Locate this document in the navigation structure

You can use exception management to monitor all exceptions which occur in the connected systems, centrally.

Exception Management supports the monitoring of the following exceptions, which occur in one place and only have an effect there, by default:

  • ABAP dumps

  • ABAP web service exceptions

  • System protocol errors

  • Application protocol errors

  • Job protocol errors

If you use the exception management instrumentation platform, you can also monitor multi-step exceptions. These can be interfaces and processes which are distributed among several components in a heterogeneous IT landscape, and can include SAP components, legacy systems and customer application components. For more information, see Exception Management Instrumentation Platform.

To use the exception management, choose   Root Cause Analysis work center,   Exception Management   Monitoring  .

  • You have set up your IT landscape in the SAP Solution Manager Configuration work center.

  • You have specified the exceptions to monitor, in the   SAP Solution Manager Configuration work center,   Managed System Configuration   Manual Configuration  .

  • To monitor multi-step exceptions, make the instrumentation platform settings. For more information, see Exception Management Instrumentation Platform.

Exception management gives you an overview of all current exceptions. In the Monitoring tab, you can run detailed error analyses, document the error handling, and create incidents and notifications for further processing:

  • Under Automatic Update, you specify the time after which the exceptions overview is automatically updated. To update the overview manually, choose Refresh.

  • Under Active Query, you specify which categories of exceptions to display in the overview.

  • The overview shows a summary of all process flows with errors, and technical exceptions, sorted by exception category. The system shows further information, depending on the category, for example the number of errors in a category, or the source of the error.

To display the exceptions in the Instance Group group box, choose a category.

  • The system lists all existing exceptions exceptions of the selected category, in the Instance Group group box. The information depends on the category and implementation source.

You can use the following functions:

    • Export exceptions list

    • Display exception details

The Exception Details displayed depend on the category to which the exception belongs. For example, the error context and calling stack can be displayed for an individual exception. For multi-step exceptions, the details show, for example, the process flow, including process steps and their status.

You can also process an exception further from the Exception Details screen.

    • Assign processor

    • Create notification

    • Create incident

    • Start guided procedures to create step-by-step error handling descriptions, or display existing error handling documentation.
