A guided procedure helps you to set up an Interface Channel Monitoring scenario

  1. Optional: Define cross-scenario settings:

    1. You can enable, for example, auto-alerts and auto-notifications, in the step Configure Infrastructure.

    2. Optional: Define global settings:

      • EEMon Script Configuration: If you want to monitor the availability of interfaces, you have to create End User Experience Monitoring (EEMon) scripts to be executed automatically, every minute.

To create an EEMon script, download the EEM script editor and adapt an SAP-delivered script (for monitoring the availability of RFC and web services interfaces) according to your requirements (you add, for example, the URL which is to be called).

For more information about adapting and deploying the scripts, see End User Experience Monitoring.

      • Define Global Attributes: To filter in the Interface Channel Monitor and identify scenarios and interface channels, you create attributes according to your business requirements, for example business area, business scenario, company, region. You can reuse attributes in various Interface Channel Monitoring scenarios by assigning them to an ICMon scenario and the interfaces in a scenario.

  2. To create a scenario, in the Define Scope step define all technical systems that are either the source or target system of an interface channel in your scenario.

  3. Optional: Assign one or more of the attributes you have defined globally, to the scenario. These attributes are assigned to interface channels in the scenario, later.

  4. To create an interface channel, do the following:

    1. Define the source and target systems of the interface channel.

    2. Define the interfaces in the interface channel. Specify, for example in case of an RFC connection, the RFC destination and the RFC-enabled function module.

    3. Optional: Select an attribute to filter for an interface channel, and assign a value. For example the attribute Region with the value EMEA.

    4. Optional: To monitor the availability of the interface channel, select the EEMon script that you have defined.

    5. Optional: To monitor application log entries for exceptions for the Interface, specify the object/subobject.

An interface channel bundles a set of interfaces of a specific type between two technical systems. Interface channels can be reused in different scenarios. Interface channel attributes tag an interface channel.

  5. Activate the interface channels in the scenario by selecting the metric to be displayed.

  6. Optional: You can include usage and response time monitoring in the alerting and adapt the default threshold values.

By default, alerting is active for availability and exceptions monitoring.

  7. Optional: You can generate automatic notifications and define the corresponding threshold values and recipients.

Prerequisites

  • You have authorization as a configuration user for System Monitoring.

To create a configuration user, or assign the required roles to an existing user, do the following:

    1. In the SAP Solution Manager Configuration work center, choose the Basic Configuration scenario.

    2. Choose the Create Configuration User step.

    3. Under Users, select the user for the System Monitoring scenario and perform the required steps.

  • You have identified the components and systems whose interfaces you want to monitor.

  • For the technical systems to be included in the ICMon scenario, you have executed the following SAP Solution Manager configuration scenarios:

    • Managed system configuration

    • System monitoring setup

  • You have called the SAP Solution Manager Configuration work center.

Procedure

To start the guided procedure, do the following:

  1. Choose Technical Monitoring.

  2. Choose the Interface Channel Monitoring view.

  3. Perform the steps of the guided procedure.
