The configuration and change database (CCDB) saves the configuration data of managed systems in configuration repositories, and allows you to trace changes. The CCDB management in the SAP Solution Manager Administration work center is the central location to check the configuration repository status.

The configuration data is collected daily by the extractor framework, and uploaded from the managed systems to CCDB. Several configuration repositories are usually collected at the same time by one extractor. Collection can sometimes fail for various reasons. For example: The managing system is not available or there is no authorization to access some files.

To be able to use certain applications completely, the CCDB configuration data must be updated regularly. The following applications are based on CCDB data:

  • Change analysis: Display the configuration of a managed system, and compare the configuration of two systems directly, at specified times. For more information, see Change Analysis.

  • Change Analysis: History of configuration changes, with direct navigation to change analysis function. For more information, see Change Analysis.

  • Configuration Check: Freely-definable check of the configuration of any managed systems. For further information, see Configuration Check.

  • Service sessions: The CCDB configuration data is used by the service sessions, e.g. EarlyWatch Alert (EWA).

You use the CCDB management in the following scenarios:

  • Production processing: The Alerting Framework monitors the status of configuration repositories of a managed system, automatically. If a configuration repository in the managed system has a red status, an alert is raised, and you can perform a rooi cause analysis in the CCDB management.

  • Configuration of a managed system: The day after you have configured a managed system, start the CCDB management, and check whether the overall status of the managed system is green. This ensures that all configuration repositories are initially functional.

    The data is only available in CCDB the next day, because the extractors run daily, in the evening.

Features

  • The Status tab provides the following information:

    • The General tab gives you an overview of the CCDB infrastructure status. For more information, see Check Routine CCDB Tasks.

      Check Configuration Repository Immediately: When you change your system landscape, you can immediately check how the change will affect the configuration repository. If, for example, you deinstall an object in your landscape, its configuration repositories have the status Not Relevant, because they are no longer required. The check is performed automatically, daily. In a production system environment, a manual check is not usually necessary.

    • In the Technical Systems tab, you can check in which systems uploading configuration repositories failed.

      Overall status of technical system: Shows the overall CCDB status of the technical system. The overall status can be red even though all configuration repositories are correct. This is the case if an extractor ended incorrectly, so that it is not known whether the configuration repository is complete.

      Not Relevant: Shows, for example, the number of configuration repositories which are no longer required, because, for example, the objects are no longer in the system landscape. The actual reason is explained by the main status of the configuration repository. The content of this configuration repository can still be displayed in the CCDB management, but not-relevant configuration repositories are not available externally, e.g. for applications such as change analysis.

    • In the Selection tab, you can search for configuration repositories. The search is not restricted to one system.
