Procedure documentationModifying a Business Process Locate this document in the navigation structure

You use this procedure to modify a business process of a project in BPB to enhance the business blueprint in SAP Solution Manager. You can perform any of the following modifications:

  • Add a new process step or an existing process step from the Business Process Repository to the business process

  • Add a process step graphically and depict a flow diagram for the business process using palette tools

  • Assign interfaces to the connections that exist between two process steps

    Note Note

In a process flow diagram, you assign interfaces to connections that exist between two process steps for communication. These process steps are the source and target process steps of the connection and they are associated with their logical components. An interface is defined with a sending and a receiving logical component in SAP Solution Manager. Interfaces can only be assigned to connections, when the logical component of the connection's source and target process steps match its sending and receiving logical component.

    End of the note.

While you are editing a business process, other users do not have the permission to edit it unless you publish or revert your changes.

Procedure

  1. Open the business blueprint project.

  2. In the Business Blueprint perspective, place the mouse pointer on the Business Scenarios and choose Expand speed button.

  5. If you want to create and add a process step to the business process, perform the following substeps:

    1. In the Process Step List section, choose Add.

    2. In the New Process Step window, enter a name for the new process step.

    3. Choose OK.

    4. In the Process Step Details section, select a logical component for the process step from the dropdown list.

  6. Save your entries.

Note Note

You can view the list of transactions and user interfaces for the business process and process steps on the User Interfaces tab page.

End of the note.
Adding a Process Step Graphically
  1. Select the business process and choose Process Flow speed button.

    Note Note

If you have obtained business process (in SAP Solution Manager) from BPR and you are editing it for the first time in BPB tool, then you can see similar process flow diagram in BPB and in Graphic tab of SAP Solution Manager.

    End of the note.
  2. Use the elements available in the palette to enhance the generated process flow diagram.

    Note Note

The table below explains about the elements available in the BPB palette. The process flow diagram is generated using these elements that are based on Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) 2.0 standards.

    Elements

    Purpose

    Connection

Connection in Process Flow diagram represents one of the below forms:

    • Sequence flow indicates how control flows through all the elements of a business process.

    • Association relates annotations to other items.

    Logical Component

Logical component is represented as a sub-partition within a business process and each logical component holds one or more process steps.

    Process Step

Process step represents the activity or work being performed.

    • Human: Represents an activity with user input.

    • Automated: Represents a system activity.

    • Sub-Process: Represents an activity that references and executes another process modeled with BPMN.

    Annotation

Allows notes to be attached to individual elements in the diagram.

    Start Event

Represents the start of the process flow.

    Intermediate Event

Indicates a point of time at which messages are sent or received in a process.

    End Event

Represents the end of the process flow.

    Gateway

Shows where sequence flow splits or merges. There are two types of gateways available in the palette. Depending on the requirement, you can change the type:

    • OR: On split, One or more. outgoing sequence flows are activated. On merge, gateway awaits only activated sequence flows.

    • AND: On split, all outgoing sequence flows are activated simultaneously. On merge, gateway awaits all incoming sequence flows

For more information about the elements mentioned above, refer to an Object Management Group (OMG) documentation on BPMN 2.0.

    End of the note.
  3. In the toolbar, choose Toggle View/Edit Mode.

    Note Note

Use Refresh to get the latest content from the server before performing any edit operations.

    End of the note.
  4. To add a logical component to the flow diagram, perform the following substeps:

    1. Select the logical component element from the Palette and click on the flow diagram.

    2. Assign a logical component from the dropdown list.

      Note Note

To assign any other logical component, you have to select and click on the current logical component.

      End of the note.
  5. To create a process step, perform the following substeps:

    1. Select the process step element from the Palette and click on the logical component in the flow diagram.

    2. Select a name from the dropdown list or enter a new name.

      Note Note

When you enter a new name, a new process step gets automatically created and added to the Process Step List. If you have already assigned a logical component before creating the process step, then it gets associated with the process step.

      End of the note.
  6. Save your entries.

Note Note

Once you have edited the process flow, the diagram in the Graphic tab of SAP Solution Manager and BPB tool is no longer the same. On publish, you can view these changes in the BPMN Graphic tab of SAP Solution Manager.
