The End User Experience Monitoring (EEMon) simulates the behavior of users who access central servers at different locations and run business processes. As administrator, you monitor the availability of the systems, and performance of the connections, from the end user perspective, in real time.

End User Experience Monitoring comprises the following functions:

  • You use the EEMon setup in the following cases:

    • to initially set up the infrastructure which provides the data to real-time monitoring.

    • to add locations to an existing infrastructure and configure EEMon robots for them. EEMon robots are diagnostics agents that execute EEMon scripts.

    • to add technical scenarios to an existing infrastructure. Technical scenarios are groups of technical systems in which specified business processes run.

    • You upload new EEMon scripts for the EEMon robots so that you can distribute them to the locations. An EEMon script simulates a business process.

    • You define parameters for monitoring, such as threshold values for generating messages.

    • You specify the method for evaluating the EEMon data in SLA reporting.

    • You define parameters for reporting, for example, the method for evaluating the EEMon data in SLA reporting and the threshold values for individual business-relevant steps in EEMon scripts.

  • The End User Experience script editor (EEMon editor) creates EEMon scripts that are run on hosts at your various locations by EEMon robots to simulate business processes.

  • The End User Experience monitor (EEMon monitor) provides real-time monitoring of the availability of business processes and analyzes the cause of any errors which occur.

  • EEMon reporting displays the most important monitoring data through time – from today to the previous year – on a centralized basis. You identify potentially problematic trends early, and get an overview of the availability and performance of your scenarios. The corresponding metrics are output at technical scenario, EEMon script, EEMon robot, and step levels.

Activities

Setting up end user experience monitoring is an iterative process which you perform several times:

  1. Set up the initial infrastructure:

    1. Start the SAP Solution Manager Configuration work center.

    2. Ensure that the systems that are to be monitored by EEMon are configured for diagnostics in SAP Solution Manager:

      1. Choose the Managed System Configuration view.

      2. To configure a system, follow the instructions in the guided procedure.

    3. Choose the Technical Monitoring view.

    4. In Technical Monitoring, choose End User Experience.

    5. Follow the instructions in the guided procedure.

A technical scenario and an EEMon self-test script, which you can use to test the application, are created automatically during the initial setup.

  2. Start the EEMon monitor to test the infrastructure and to get to know the capabilities of the EEMon monitor:

For more information, see End User Experience Monitor.

  3. Extend the infrastructure:

    1. Install diagnostics agents on hosts at your various locations. For more information, see Installing Diagnostics Agents on End-User Hosts.

    2. Configure diagnostics agents as EEMon robots. To do so, start EEMon setup again in the SAP Solution Manager: Configuration work center and follow the instructions for the Configure EEMon Robots substep of the Infrastructure Configuration step.

  4. In your EEMon infrastructure, distribute the EEMon scripts that simulate end-user activities:

    1. Create an EEMon script which simulates a business process and upload it into the SAP Solution Manager EEMon administrator script repository.

For more information about the EEMon editor, see the End User Experience Monitoring Script Editor documentation on SAP Service Marketplace under   http://service.sap.com\solutionmanager   Media Library   Technical Information  .

    2. Start the EEMon setup again in the SAP Solution Manager: Configuration work center.

    3. In the Script Management step, create a technical scenario, assign the EEMon script to the technical scenario, and upload the EEMon script to one or more EEMon robots.

A technical scenario defines the technical systems on which a business process is executed. You create a technical scenario in order to assign it the EEMon script that simulates the business process, or parts of it, on the technical systems of the respective scenario.

    4. In the Monitoring step, adapt the parameters, for example, to your organization or at the EEMon robots or scripts level. You specify:

      • Measurement intervals

      • Trace data resolution

For further information, see Adjusting Parameters.

    5. In the Monitoring step, configure the monitoring settings by grouping the EEMon robots for displaying the data in the EEMon monitor by region or function. For more information, see Grouping EEMon Robots Regionally or Functionally.

    6. Adjust the alert threshold values in the Alerting step. For more information, see Specify Alert Thresholds.

    7. Adjust the EEMon monitor interface. For more information, see End User Experience Monitor.

  5. Optional: Change parameters temporarily to analyze irregularities. For more information, see Changing Parameters Temporarily for Error Analysis.

  6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you can monitor the availability and performance of all critical business processes in the EEMon monitor.

  7. Use interactive reporting for EEMon to display the most important End-User Experience Monitoring (EEMon) performance and availability values over long periods in reports.

For more information, see Interactive Reports for Scenarios.
