Hierarchy tree with several levels that is used to reproduce the involvement of various groups.
The system uses the group involvements to determine whether an order can be assigned to a group contract.
Contracts can be displayed for all subsidiaries in a group hierarchy during contract monitoring by specifying the parent group as a business partner and using hierarchy selection to extend the search to all subsidiaries in the group.
Hierarchy tree
A contract-relevant business partner hierarchy reproduces all group hierarchies to be included in contract determination in your organization. Each first-level node in the hierarchy represents a group.
A business partner hierarchy consists of any number of business partner relationships. Each business partner relationship has a higher-level and lower-level business partner.
Note
You can assign each business partner to the hierarchy independently of the role in which they were created.
Assigning business partner to other business partners creates business partner relationships.
Validity period and involvement relationship
A validity period and an involvement relationship are defined for each business partner relationship.
The validity period defines the length of the business partner relationship. A lower-level business partner cannot be assigned to any additional business partners during the validity period.
The involvement relationship defines the percentage involvement of a higher-level business partner in a lower-level business partner.
The validity period and involvement relationship affect contract determination.
You define the involvement relationships that can be assigned to a group contract for each sales area in Customizing under
Example
You stipulate that subsidiaries only have contract entitlement if the group parent’s involvement in these organizations exceeds 50% in Customizing for each sales area. If you have also included subsidiaries in the contract-relevant business partner hierarchy where the group parent involvement is less than 50%, the system does not assign orders for these subsidiaries to the group contract during contract determination.
Hierarchy type
The hierarchy type can be used to distinguish business partner hierarchies.
Example
You can only assign a lower-level business partner in a business partner hierarchy to one other business partner during the validity period. If a business partner is assigned at various hierarchy levels in various sales areas as a result of alternate contracts, you should create a business partner hierarchy with its own hierarchy type for each sales area.
You should make the following settings in Customizing to distinguish business partner hierarchies:

Flexible hierarchy structures
You can change business partner relationships or reassign sub-trees to ensure that the business partner hierarchy reflects any changes that have occurred within a group. If you reassign a business partner relationship, the system reassigns all business partner relationships that are assigned below this relationship.
You define the circumstances in which the system determines a group contract in Customizing.
