 Changing the Notification Type

This function enables you to make Customizing settings that allow the notification type to be changed when users create and change maintenance and service notifications (transactions iw21, iw22, iw51, and iw52). Up to now, you could only change the notification type for general notifications and quality notifications.

Additional Details

You can allow the notification type of maintenance and service notifications to be changed if the original notification type and the target notification type have the same notification category. You allow this in Customizing for Plant Maintenance and Customer Service under Start of the navigation path Maintenance and Service Processing Next navigation step Maintenance and Service Notifications Next navigation step Notification Creation Next navigation step Notification Types Next navigation step Define Allowed Changes of Notification Type End of the navigation path. In the SAP standard configuration, you can allow the change between the following notification types:

  • Notification types with notification category Maint. Notification:

    • Maintenance Requests (M1)

    • Malfunction Reports (M2)

    • Activity Reports (M3)

  • Notification types with notification category Service Notification:

    • Problem Notifications (S1)

    • Activity Reports (S2)

    • Service Requests (S3)

In addition, you can only change the notification type of maintenance and service notifications if the notification has not yet been completed.

When the notification type is changed, the system does not assign a new notification number. In the same manner, all data in the original notification type (such as reference objects) are retained after a change of notification type. This also applies even if specific data is irrelevant for the target notification type. To override this behavior, implement the Business Add-In (BAdI) Checks for Extended Change of Notification Type (BADI_IQS0_NOTIF_TYPE_CHANGE).

Effects on Existing Data

For changing the notification type, the transactions iw21, iw22, iw51, and iw52 now have the new pushbutton Change Notification Type.
