 Creating Follow-On Orders

You can use this function to create maintenance orders as follow-on orders for an order or order operation. When you create a follow-on order, you create a relationship to the reference order or operation and you can display this relationship in the document flow. You can create follow-on orders directly (transaction iw31), when changing or displaying an order (transactions iw32 and iw33), or when creating a confirmation (transaction iw41). In order processing, appropriate pushbuttons show you whether the respective order has a preceding or follow-on order. You can display the relationship between the preceding order and the follow-on order in a hierarchical structure.

Additional Details

When you create a new order as a follow-on order for an existing order, the system copies some header data to the new order. You can use checkboxes to specify whether the system should also copy operation data, components, relationships, settlement rules, and document links to the follow-on order.

You can create follow-on orders for existing orders or for individual order operations. You can create follow-on orders directly or while changing or confirming existing orders by choosing a pushbutton that takes you to the order creation screen.

When creating an order with reference, the system creates the new order independently of the reference order. When creating a follow-on order, however, the system creates a relationship to the reference order, in which the reference order becomes the preceding order. You can display this relationship as a hierarchical list.

Note Note

The hierarchical list displays at most one level above and one level below the selected order. In other words, only the orders directly preceding and directly following the order that you selected are displayed. If you have created follow-on orders for more than one order operation, the system displays all the follow-on orders that have been created for the selected order or its operations.

You can only display this relationship between preceding and follow-on orders if you are using the enhanced document flow functions in the maintenance order. The enhanced document flow has been integrated into this business function, but is also part of the business function Enterprise Asset Management Part 6 (LOG_EAM_CI_6).

You can also create follow-on orders with the BAPI BAPI_ALM_ORDER_MAINTAIN.

You can only create follow-on orders for orders that have been released.

If you have defined view profiles and assigned them to the appropriate order types in Customizing, you can display and edit maintenance orders in the simple order view. You cannot, however, create follow-on orders from the simple order view and the system does not display whether the respective order already has preceding or follow-on orders.

End of the note.

Effects on Existing Data

For the creation of follow-on orders, the user interface has been enhanced as follows:

  • When you create maintenance orders (transaction iw31), there is a new checkbox Create Follow-On Order in the Reference group box. You can use this checkbox to specify that the existing order is not only used as a reference order, but also becomes a preceding order for the new order. Furthermore, there is a new field in which you can enter an operation number if you wish to create the follow-on order for a specific order operation. You use the new Operations and Components checkboxes to define that operation data and specific operation detail data is copied to the follow-on order.

  • In the transactions for changing or displaying orders (transactions iw32 and iw33) and in the confirmation (transaction iw41), there is the Create Follow-On Order pushbutton with which you can create a follow-on order for the order or order operation that you are currently changing.

  • For orders that have a follow-on order and/or preceding order, there is the Follow-On Orders pushbutton in the document flow with which you can display the follow-on order and preceding order in a hierarchical structure. In the orders themselves, the new pushbuttons with the tooltips A preceding order exists for this order and A follow-on order exists for this order show whether an order has a preceding order or a follow-on order. You can also use these pushbuttons to display the hierarchy list with the preceding and/or follow-on orders in the document flow.
