Printing GS1-128 Labels

You can use this function to print out a GS1-128 label as an output for a handling unit (HU). The GS1-128 label is used when shipping goods so they can be identified in accordance with the GS1 standard. The GS1-128 and one of its subcomponents, the Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC), are defined in this standard. You can use this to identify the shipped handling units.

Integration

This function is integrated in the packaging function. The PDF form for printing GS1-128 labels is called CFB_V6_EAN128_FORM. You can copy this form and modify it in the Form Builder (transaction SFP). The name of the print program is CFB_V6_EAN128_LABEL.

Prerequisites

You have made the following settings in Customizing for Logistics - General under Handling Unit Management:

Under Basics Define Packaging Material Types , you have defined a packaging material type such as 0001 (Pallets) and have made all the required entries, including:
- Packaging material category: Packaging materials
- Number assignment: SSCC18 already at creation of handling unit
Under Basics Define EAN128 Define Bar Code Profile for Label , you have checked that the GS1SCC profile exists. You have then also checked that the EAN128 profile line exists for the GS1SCC profile.

Under Start of the navigation path Output Next navigation step Maintain Output Determination for Handling Units Maintain Output Types End of the navigation path , you have checked that the output type GS1 exists. In the dialog structure Processing routines, you have checked the entries for output type GS1:

In the dialog structure Partner functions, you have checked the following for output type GS1:

Medium: Print output

Under Output Maintain Output Determination for Handling Units Maintain Output Determination Procedure , you have checked the following for output determination procedure 00001 (Standard) in the dialog structure Control Data:
- Level: 10
- Counter: 30
- CType: GS1
- Requirement: 31
Under Output Maintain Output Determination for Handling Units Assign Bar Code Profile and Form to an Output Type , you have checked that the output type GS1 is assigned to profile GS1SCC.

On the SAP Easy Access screen, you have configured the following:
1. Under Logistics Materials Management Material Master Material Change Immediately in the Additional Data of the material with the material type Finished Product (FERT), you have checked the following entries on the Additional EANs tab:
  - Main EAN: Checkbox is selected.
  - EAN/UPC: A valid EAN has been entered.
  - EAN cat.: HE
  If you are working with batches, you have flagged the material as subject to management in batches and have checked that the best-before date/shelf life expiration date has been entered in the batch master record.
2. Under Logistics Materials Management Material Master Material Create Immediately , you have created a material master record with material type Packaging (VERP) for the packaging material.
3. Under Logistics Sales and Distribution Master Data Business Partner Customer Create Sales and Distribution , you have created a customer master record.

  The Language field dictates the language of the GS1-128 label.

4. Under Logistics Central Functions Handling Unit Management Master Data Output Conditions Change , you have checked that output type GS1 exists. You have chosen the Key combination pushbutton, have entered the packaging material type you defined in Customizing, and have checked the following:
  - PkgMtlType: 0001
  - Funct: SH
  - Medium: 1
  - Date/Time: 3
  By choosing the Communication pushbutton, you have entered an output device and the number of messages.

Features

You print the GS1-128 label using output control. The printed label contains the following data:

Plant
Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC)
International Article Number (EAN)
Loading Weight

The loading weight that is displayed corresponds to the gross weight from the material master multiplied by the number of pieces, and does not include the load carrier.
Quantity of the material that is in / on the HU
Best-before date (BBD) / shelf life expiration date (SLED) of the batch
Order number and delivery number
Customer's purchase order number
HU number as a bar code
Material number in digits and as bar code
Batch number in digits and as bar code

You can also print out the GS1-128 label for HUs that are made up of a material mix or batch mix. In this case, the label only contains the bar code of the HU number.

Activities

Create a sales order.
Create an outbound delivery with (or without) reference to a sales order. Then choose Edit Pack and enter the appropriate packaging material as well as the material to be packed. Pack the quantity by choosing the Pack pushbutton and check the output that is generated by selecting the HU and choosing Extras Output .
To print out the GS1-EAN128 label, on the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Logistics Logistics Execution Outbound Process Goods Issue for Outbound Delivery Communication / Printing Handling Unit Output (transaction VL74). After you have entered output type GS1, processing mode 1, and the relevant outbound delivery, the system selects the relevant output. Choose Print preview and then Print. You can print the label more than once.
