Packaging Without Material Master Record

Packaging that is not based on a material master record.

If required, you can also create packaging without reference to a material master record and use it in your processes, for example, if it does not make good business sense to create a particular material master record in your system or if you do not want to work with material master records at all. If you want to create packaging items for test or simulation purposes, you can also dispense with assignments to material master records.

You can assign packaging without material master records to articles (analogous to sales packaging).

The Recycling Administration component uses packaging without material master records in its processes in the same way as packaging with material master records. Specific features are described in detail below. To be able to create and use packaging without material master records, you must set the Packaging Without Material Master Record indicator in Customizing for Recycling Administration under Start of the navigation path Sales and Distribution Next navigation step Billing Recycling Administration General Control Define General Control End of the navigation path .

Structure

Packaging items without a material master record have the same basic properties as packaging items with a material master record. For packaging with a material master record, the following properties of a packaging are mapped via the respective assigned material master record (table MARA); for a packaging without material master records, the system creates the following properties directly in the packaging (table J_7LV01 in Recycling Administration):

Key of packaging
When you create a packaging without a material master record, you assign it a key directly in contrast to a packaging with a material master record, whose key is automatically based on the material number from the material master record. To be able to assign this key directly, you must define at least one number range interval of your own. For more information, see Customizing for Recycling Administration under Sales and Distribution Billing Recycling Administration General Control Define Number Ranges for Packaging Without Material Master Record .
- This number range definition (number range object J_7LVRP) is independent of the number range definition in the material master. Depending on the intervals you define, it is possible that material master records exist in the material master whose IDs correspond to those of packaging without material master records. This does not mean that a link is created between the packaging and the material master record though and a link cannot be established subsequently.
- If you attempt to create a packaging without a material master record with a key that already exists as a material number in the material master, the system issues a corresponding warning.
- If you create a packaging with a material master record with a key that is intended for packaging without a material master record, the system then treats the key as having been used. Despite originally being reserved for packaging without material master records, it can no longer be used for them.
Packaging class
When it creates a packaging without a material master record, the system automatically assigns it the packaging class Packaging Without Material Master Record (C). This assignment cannot be changed.
Short text
You can define a short text as the description for a packaging without a material master record in each language. In the applications for editing packaging, the Short Texts tab is available in addition for packaging without material master records to enter this text. You can control the display of this tab using the functions for personalizing these applications.
Base unit of measure
When you create a packaging without a material master record, you must specify the base unit of measure on the Dimensions tab. You cannot subsequently change this property.

In the personalization of the applications for editing packaging, you can specify a default value that is used automatically when a packaging without a material master record is created.

As no material master records exist for this packaging, the system cannot display any data from the material master in the applications for editing packaging.

Note the following specific features when displaying and editing packaging without material master records:

You create packaging without a material master record in the Create REA Packaging application (transaction J7L5) using the pushbutton Create Packaging Without Mat. Master Record. This function is also available to you in the respective portal role.
In the applications for editing packaging, display and edit functions that relate to material master data are not available for packaging without material master records.
A special search help is available for the Packaging field for packaging without material master records.
There is a report program available for the conversion of packaging with material master records to packaging without material master records.

You can archive a material master record even if a packaging without a material master record with the same ID exists. The corresponding check for the archiving object takes this case into account and allows the archiving.
