Integration of BEx and BW objects in the portalLocate this document in the navigation structure

Purpose

You can integrate business content from the BW system into SAP NetWeaver Portal. The portal allows you to access applications from other systems and sources, like the Internet or intranet. Using one single entry point, you can access both structured and unstructured information. In addition to content from Knowledge Management, business data from data analysis is available from the Internet and intranet.

By integrating BEx and BW objects in the portal, you can work more closely and more promptly with colleagues. This can help for example if you need to insert notes and comments for key figures and reports, run approval processes automatically and be involved in company decisions.

Information is provided based on user roles in the company. Since the BW system uses the role concept, integrating BEx applications and BW objects into the portal is simple. BW users view the same content in the portal as in the BW system.

You can also use the iView concept to integrate BEx applications and integrate individual BEx Web applications as iViews in the portal. You can then display and use them from a page in the portal, together with other iViews from the SAP NetWeaver BW and SAP BEx system, or other systems.

BEx Information Broadcasting allows you to precalculate BEx Web applications, queries and workbooks and to broadcast them to the portal. You can also generate online links to queries and Web applications and publish them to the portal. The BEx Portfolio, based on Knowledge Management, forms the central entry point of access to business intelligence information from SAP NetWeaver BW and SAP BEx in the portal. More information: BEx Broadcaster.

Implementation Considerations

To integrate BEx and BW objects in the portal, both systems need to be configured once they have been installed. You also need to install a BEx Precalculation Service for Microsoft Excel to precalculate and distribute workbooks using information broadcasting. More information:
