Use

A content model is a tool used to fulfil an application's requirements for creating document attributes, versioning, defining relationships between documents, and so on.

With the DMWB, you can either create new content models, or take existing models and modify them to suit your requirements.

Note

If you want to create your own content model, you can use existing DMWB info object classes (for more information see Info Object Classes).

Caution

The term "content model" does not appear on the DMWB interface. This is because it is simply a general umbrella term referring to the overall schema of interdependencies between entities. The highest-level structural entity that can actually be created in the DMWB is the document area.

Activities

To create a content model in the DMWB, proceed as follows. Define the following:

  • At least one document area

  • Classes for logical info objects

  • Classes for physical info objects

  • Application-specific attributes

  • Classes for relationships

  • Valid relationships

    Example

    You want to administrate different documents belonging to your marketing department. First consider the kinds of documents (pamphlets, photos, TV advertisements) involved. List the properties of these documents (language, format, author, and so on). Consider whether there are relationships between these documents. Relationships may exist where, for example, documents are linked via hyperlinks, or where one document is a template for another.
