Rounding

Use

You use this function to do the following:

  • Round demand quantities or confirmed quantities up or down to pack sizes

Rounding to pack sizes guarantees that packaging materials do not need to be broken open. Packaging materials with full contents simplify storage and transportation.

  • Round down confirmed quantities to sales units

Rounding to sales units guarantees that you deliver the products to the customer in the requested sales unit.

Integration

You can use rounding for the following Global ATP methods and functions:

Prerequisites

  • You use SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAPCRM) release 5.0 or higher for rounding to pack sizes.

  • For rounding to sales units, you use SAP ECC Enterprise Extension Defense Forces & Public Security.

  • You have made the settings for rounding .

  • You have not defined a calculation profile for rounding with rules-based ATP.

Features

Rounding Up or Down to Pack Sizes

When it rounds to pack sizes, the system either rounds demand quantities before the ATP check or confirmed quantities after the ATP check.

You can use the following rounding methods:

  • Pack-size-oriented rounding

Rounding is based on the pack sizes in this case. The rounding options are as follows:

    • Rounding based on a rounding tolerance interval

You can define a rounding tolerance interval by specifying round-up and round-down limits (as a percentage of the pack size).

    • Rounding based on rounding directions

You can choose between the following rounding directions:

      • Round up

      • Round down

      • Round to the nearest whole number

  • Demand-quantity-oriented rounding

Rounding is based on the demand quantities in this case.

You can define a rounding tolerance interval (as a percentage of the demand quantity) for this rounding method, but you cannot choose a rounding direction. If you use demand-quantity-oriented rounding, you can however influence the rounding direction by specifying zero as the lower limit of the rounding tolerance interval. The system always rounds up in this case. If you specify zero as the upper rounding limit, the system always rounds down. If you specify zero as the upper and lower rounding limit, the system rounds to the nearest multiple of the smallest permissible pack size. It also does this if the multiples of the smallest permissible pack size are not within the rounding tolerance interval.

For more information about demand-quantity-oriented rounding, see Rounding .

Rounding Down to Sales Units

When it rounds to sales units, the system rounds down the confirmed quantity to the sales unit requested by the customer after the ATP check.

Example

  • Rounding to Pack Sizes

You have made the following settings:

    • Pack size: package containing 10 pieces

    • Rounding direction: round down

A customer orders 21 pieces of a product. A quantity of 21 pieces corresponds to 2 complete packages plus one piece. Since you have defined round down as the rounding direction, the system rounds down to 20 pieces. The customer receives 2 packages.

  • Rounding to Sales Units

You have made the following settings:

    • Pack size Package : a package contains 10 pieces

    • Pack size Box : a box contains 2 packages, that is, 20 pieces

A customer orders 2 boxes of a specific product. The sales unit is box . The system performs an availability check and confirms 18 pieces. Since 18 pieces is less than the contents of 2 boxes, the system rounds down to the next smallest sales unit. The next smallest sales unit corresponds to a box. The customer receives one box.
