Activity Matrix The activity matrix is a product-related database object that is stored in the
liveCache
of the APO system. The columns of the activity matrix contain the APO planned orders for the product, just as in the case of the component variant matrix. The rows of the activity matrix contain all the activities from the process structure of the product being planned. An
X
in the appropriate row of the matrix indicates the use of an activity in an APO planned order.
The structure of this matrix is made clear in the following graphic:

The activity matrix enables you to determine the necessary iPPE activities for each order. This is particularly important for the production backflush. When you use the activity matrix, you can post production activities in addition to goods issues when you enter a production backflush. The system determines the activities required by each order and the duration from the mode. It also determines the costing master data from the production resource that you entered as the primary resource in the mode. The system uses this data to calculate the production activities. You can check whether an activity has been considered in the backflush when you display the matrix. An activity is always considered in the backflush if you have entered a
duration
and a
production resource
in the mode. You must have set the
capacity planning
indicator for the production resource and have maintained the
costing master data
.
The rows of the activity matrix contain all the activities from the process structure that you have entered in the iPPE access object in the production version for the material being planned. The matrix contains the following attributes for each activity:
Activity number
Line element at which the activity is to take place, according to the selected line balance
Mode
Duration
Production resource (primary resource from the mode)
Costing master data
The columns of the activity matrix contain the order data, which is taken from the component variant matrix, and the data from the characteristic value matrix. This data is used to calculate the object dependencies for the individual orders.
Activities that are to be carried out for an order are marked with an X. See also: Determination of Activities with the Activity Matrix
Planning creates an activity matrix only if you have set the
Activity Matrix
indicator in the additional data for the product being planned. See also:
Control Parameters for RPM Products
Each activity matrix has a corresponding component variant matrix and characteristic value matrix. Activities are determined through explosion of the process structure. The system uses the components selected in the component variant matrix, and any change numbers that are assigned to the modes of the activities to determine the activities and valid modes.
