Maintenance Orders in SAP APO The plant maintenance (PM) order in SAP R/3 is used to plan, execute, and control maintenance on technical assets (such as functional locations and equipments). The PM order is created either as a result of a malfunction on a technical asset or to carry out preventive maintenance (planned maintenance). The PM order consists of operations that can hold capacity and component requirements; the operations can be linked by relationships.
To plan the maintenance execution, the PM order has to be scheduled, capacity requirements have to be planned, and the required components have to be made available on time.
A technical asset may correspond to a production-relevant resource. So maintaining, repairing, or checking this asset through the PM order may cause a downtime. This means that the resource is not available for production during the planned maintenance time. Such downtimes have to be considered when performing production planning.
PM orders are created and scheduled in SAP R/3 and capacity planning also takes place in SAP R/3. When saved, the relevant PM order data is transferred to a maintenance order in SAP APO. The relevant order data is:
Order headers
Operations with scheduled start and end dates
Relationships between operations
Component requirements
Downtime of a technical asset
Refurbishment material (for refurbishment orders only)
You cannot change a maintenance order in SAP APO; its only purpose is to complete the planning picture by providing maintenance-triggered component requirements and resource downtimes. Therefore, maintenance orders are transferred as fixed orders without capacity requirements and cannot be scheduled in SAP APO.
You can create downtimes on the resources to be maintained in the maintenance orders. This causes the resources to be blocked for other production operations using the resource as a main resource.
The component requirements are visible as reservations and can be planned like the reservations of production orders, by using the standard planning functions in SAP APO. The resulting planned orders, purchase requisitions, production orders, and purchase orders can be transferred back to SAP R/3 by using the standard functions of the core interface.
Recommendation
The documentation for maintenance orders in SAP APO is mainly integrated with the documentation for Integration of SAP APO and SAP R/3 , SAP APO Master Data , and Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) . Therefore, we recommend you also view that documentation.
This documentation is intended as a quick guide to maintenance orders in SAP APO.
