Component documentationLong Products Planning

This component enhances Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) and Global Available to Promise to allow you to use length-based planning functions to cover long product requirements. You can also cover requirements by cutting long stocks or receipts to shorter lengths. The cutting of stocks can be carried out with or without orders.

Long Products Planning (LOP) comprises the following functions:

  • Length-based planning heuristic /SAPAPO/EOGL_LENGTH_01

The heuristic creates new receipt elements to cover product requirements such as sales orders, planned independent requirements, transfer requirements, or dependent requirements. You can reuse non-fixed planned orders and create planned orders with a variety of lengths. A cutting function, which you can activate or deactivate as needed, allows you to cover requirements by cutting longer stocks or receipts to the required length. The cutting of stocks can be carried out with and without orders.

The Plan Components setting may lead to performance problems. If you are interested in this setting, please contact SAP.

    End of the caution.
  • Length Calculation

During the calculation of the receipt quantities, the system takes account of parameters in the product master and the PP/DS Production Data Structure (PP/DS-PDS).

The length calculation basically contains two functions:

    • The enhanced calculation of the operation quantity based on the operation lengths

    • The enhanced calculation of the component quantity and the component length configuration (length and length tolerance) on the basis of the output lengths.

  • Length-Based Net Requirements Calculation

When you create planned orders, you can start a net requirements calculation that takes the requirements of length-based materials into account.

  • Planning with LPP and Non-LPP Materials

If you implement Long Products Planning, you can also take dependencies between LPP and non LPP materials into account.

You use the BAdI /SAPAPO/EOGL_ADJ_QUAN to define how you want the system to adjust the component quantity of non LPP materials to an increased quantity of the produced LPP material during Long Products Planning. As a general rule, if you increase the quantity of the produced LPP material, usually increased required quantities for all components (LPP and non LPP materials) are also needed. The system assigns the required quantities to the individual operations in the routing. Length calculation adjusts the component quantity of LPP materials to the changed quantity of the produced LPP material. Note that the system does not take any scraps into account for non LPP materials.

Implementation Considerations

To be able to use Long Products Planning, you require the following systems:

  • An SAP ERP system, release ECC 5.0 or later, Industry Business Solution SAP Mill Products Release ECC-DIMP 5.00 and at least plug-in Pl 2004.1

  • An SCM system, Release SAP SCM 4.1 or later

Integration

  • You can use Long Products Planning within PP/DS.

  • You create orders in the ERP system. These are then transferred to the SCM system using the Core Interface CIF.

  • The length calculation is carried out in the SCM system only. If production orders are changed in the ERP system, a new length calculation is not carried out.

Constraints

  • You cannot make any manual quantity changes in planned orders to input nodes or output nodes. The insertion of nodes is not permitted.

  • You can only cut from single-unit batches.
