Function documentationUse of the Planning Service Manager for SPP

The Planning Service Manager (PSM) is used for planning in the background.

You can schedule the planning services, which you need for a business process, in a planning profile in the PSM. The PSM then runs this planning profile in the background regularly, according to your settings.

For more information about the PSM, see Planning Service Manager.

Features

You can schedule planning services for the following SPP functions in the PSM:

Activities

Scheduling Planning Services

To schedule the required services in the PSM, you proceed as follows:

  • You define a selection in Customizing for SCM Basis under Start of the navigation path Planning Service Manager Next navigation step Define Selections End of the navigation path. In a selection you can specify, for example, which products and location products are to be planned.

  • You define a process profile in Customizing for SCM Basis under Start of the navigation path Planning Service Manager Next navigation step Define Process Profile End of the navigation path. A process profile includes a method for package creation and the maximum number of planning objects that a package can contain.

  • You define a service profile for each of the services that you want to schedule in the PSM. You define service profiles in Customizing for the respective service.

    Note Note

Not every service contains a service profile. You define service profiles only if the corresponding service contains a service profile.

    End of the note.
  • You define a planning profile in Customizing for SCM Basis under Start of the navigation path Planning Service Manager Next navigation step Define Planning Profile End of the navigation path. A planning profile comprises the following components:

    • Header Data

In the header data, you specify the name of the planning profile.

    • Process Block

In the process block, you specify which of the defined selections and which of the defined process profiles you want to use in this planning profile.

    • Service List

In the service list, you specify in which version which services should be executed with which PSM service profile and in which sequence.

Note Note

You can also configure the settings above in the SAP Easy Access menu for Advanced Planning and Optimization. To do so, access the SAP Easy Access menu and choose Start of the navigation path Advanced Planning and Optimization Next navigation step Service Parts Planning (SPP) Next navigation step Environment Next navigation step Current Settings Next navigation step Planning Service Manager End of the navigation path.

End of the note.

You can define your own planning services in Customizing under Configure Planning Service Manager. For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for SCM Basis under Start of the navigation path Planning Service Manager Next navigation step Configure Planning Service Manager End of the navigation path.

Display Planning Profiles

You can display planning profiles on the Display Planning Profile screen. Not only can you call them directly, you can also find and display them according to specific selection criteria such as selection, packaging method, and service.

Execute Planning Profile

You can execute a specific planning profile on the Execute Planning Service Manager screen either directly or in the background. To do so, you specify the required planning profile and choose either Execute or Start of the navigation path Program Next navigation step Execute in Background End of the navigation path. You can access the Execute Planning Service Manager screen from the SAP Easy Access menu by choosing Start of the navigation path SCM Basis Next navigation step Planning Service Manager End of the navigation path.

Display Results

You can display the results of a PSM planning run using the Display PSM Application Log transaction. To access the transaction from the SAP Easy Access menu, choose Start of the navigation path SCM Basis Next navigation step Planning Service Manager Next navigation step Display PSM Application Log End of the navigation path. On the Display PSM Application Logs screen, enter the required subobjects of a service, optionally define additional selection criteria to restrict the number of messages displayed, and then choose Execute. The messages answering your selection criteria are displayed on the Display logs screen, together with contextual information captured by the application log.

You can use the Only Selected Messages checkbox on the Display PSM Application Logs screen to specify whether you want to display only the messages matching the additional selection criteria or all the logs that contain messages matching the additional selection criteria.
