Function documentationSimulation in Service Parts Planning

Simulation is also known as a what-if analysis. You can simulate planning processes to test settings and parameters. In this way you can change and optimize settings and parameters.

In Service Parts Planning (SPP) you can perform simulations for the following planning services:

Prerequisites

You have executed the following IMG activities:

  • General Settings for Simulation

  • Define Version Profile

  • TDL: Define Service Profile for Copying Transaction Data

For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Advanced Planning and Optimization under Start of the navigation path Supply Chain Planning Next navigation step Service Parts Planning (SPP) Next navigation step Basic Settings Next navigation step Simulation End of the navigation path.

Features

Data for Simulation
  • To perform a simulation in SPP you can choose the reference data on which you want the system to execute the simulation. Here, you can choose between the following options:

    • Simulation on the basis of current data. In this case a copy of the current version is used as the simulation version.

    • Simulation on the basis of historical data. In this case a copy of a snapshot version is used as the simulation version. To do so, you have made a snapshot in the past of the active version data and now perform the simulation on the basis of a copy of the snapshot.

  • For simulations in the simulation version the system uses the demand history of the active version. If you wish to run the simulation based on the demand history of a different version, you can set this in Customizing of Transaction Data Layer (TDL).

    Caution Caution

If you work in at least one simulation version using a different demand history from the demand history of the active version, then you must adjust the TDL Customizing for all other simulation versions. You must do this even if you want to work in these simulation versions with the demand history of the active version.

Fore more information, see the IMG for SCM Basis under Start of the navigation path Data Management Layer Next navigation step Transaction Data Layer (TDL) and in SAP-Note 917068 End of the navigation path.

    End of the caution.
Simulation Possibilities

You have the following possibilities to perform simulations in SPP:

You can either simulate the individual Service Parts Planning planning processes, such as forecasting or distribution requirements planning (DRP), or you can simulate the entire planning, from forecasting to deployment.
