PLM-Specific Functions of the Object Navigator 
In Customizing for the object navigator, you use definitions and characteristics of object types to specify which SAP PLM objects are displayed in the object navigator. For each object type, such as material, you specify the layout used on the Web user interface (Web UI) of SAP Product Lifecycle Management (SAP PLM).
A layout presents the maximum range of views, that is, it contains all views that can technically be displayed for an object type in the object navigator (see also Navigation with the Object Navigator).
Note
The General view is always displayed regardless of your Customizing settings (see also View for General Details).
If the side panel (see Side Panel) is active, the data for the central object is displayed there. In the side panel, you can branch to the Product-Centric View (see Product-Centric View (PCV)) where you can display additional contextual information for the chosen object. It does not contain any detailed data for the object.
In addition to the objects used on the Web user interface (Web UI) of SAP Product Lifecycle Management (SAP PLM), such as material or bill of material, you can integrate other SAP object types and non-SAP object types in the object navigator.

Integration
We deliver standard settings in Customizing for the object navigator for the PLM Web UI object types. For each object type, these standard settings influence the available views for navigation in the object-specific details and relations on the UI.
You access the object navigator on the PLM Web UI as follows:
