In the course of warehouse reorganization, the warehouse sublevels are often adjusted and the bin locations restructured. Since SAP Business One requires you to use the codes of the warehouse and warehouse sublevels to compose the bin location codes, you may need to modify the bin location codes as a result of the reorganization.

In SAP Business One, you can modify the bin location codes one by one or in batches. Once you have successfully changed a source bin location code to a target bin location code, SAP Business One automatically transfers the inventory from the source bin location to the target bin location and deactivates the source bin location.

With the bin location code modification, you can do the following:

  • Changing a source bin location code to a target bin location code

  • Changing a range of source bin location codes into one target bin location code

In this case, SAP Business One transfers the inventory from all source bin locations to the target bin location and deactivates all source bin locations.

  • Changing a range of source bin location codes to a range of target bin location codes

Note Note

As every bin location code is unique in SAP Business One, you must merge the bin location codes when either of the following conditions arises:

  • The target bin location code already exists.

In this case, you must merge the source bin location code with the existing target bin location code.

  • Multiple source bin location codes share one target bin location code.

In this case, you must merge all source bin location codes into one.

To merge bin location codes, select the Merge Bin Location Codes checkbox in the Bin Location Code Modification – Preview window.

If the target bin location code does not exist, SAP Business One automatically creates the target bin location with the same properties as those of the source bin location.

However, in case you change a range of source bin location codes into a target bin location code that does not exist, the target bin location is created with the same properties as those of the first bin location in the source range.

End of the note.

    Note Note

    End of the note.

Example

Warehouse A has the following sublevels:

  • Sublevel 1 – Wing

Sublevel codes – WINGEAST and WINGWEST, which refer to the east and west wings in the warehouse, respectively

  • Sublevel 2 – Area

Sublevel codes – AREAX and AREAY, which represent area X and Y in each wing.

  • Sublevel 3 – Shelf

Sublevel codes – SHELF01 and SHELF02, which stand for shelf 01 and 02 in each area.
