The Bin Locations tab becomes available.

Warehouses - Setup: Bin Locations Tab
Bin Loc. Code Separator

Enter up to five characters as the separator of bin location codes. The characters can be alphabetic letters, numbers, symbols, or a combination of all. You can also leave this field empty. By default, a hyphen - is displayed.

Each bin location code comprises several segments: the warehouse code and the warehouse sublevel codes. Once you have specified the bin location code separator, the separator is inserted between each segment in all bin location codes related to the warehouse.

No. of Bin Locations

Displays the number of bin locations in the warehouse. To view the list of all bin locations in the warehouse, open the bin location list by clicking Link Arrow (Link Arrow) to the left of the number.

Default Bin Location

Specify the default bin location in the warehouse for receiving items. By default, SAP Business One automatically creates a system bin location for the warehouse once bin locations are enabled, and assigns the system bin location as the default bin location for receiving items.

During receipt of items, the default bin location is automatically assigned for storing items.

Note Note

If you have enabled receiving bin locations for the warehouse, then by default, the receiving bin locations are used automatically to store the items received externally from your vendors or customers. The default bin locations are used automatically only to store items received internally, for example, the items transferred from other warehouses or the finished products collected from factories.

End of the note.
Enforce Default Bin Loc.

Note Note

If you have not specified a default bin location, the checkbox is disabled.

End of the note.

Select the checkbox to enforce the use of the default bin location during receipt of items to the warehouse. That is, when you receive an item to the warehouse, you must place it in the default bin location.

Exceptions:

  • You have specified a default bin location for the item group to which the item belongs.

  • You have specified a default bin location for the item.

Among the three default bin locations, the priority is as follows:

Default Bin Location of Item > Default Bin Location of Item Group > Default Bin Location of Warehouse

Therefore, if you have specified a default bin location for the item or item group, the enforced default bin location on the warehouse level is not in effect.

Auto Alloc. on Issue

Select the method by which items are automatically allocated from bin locations during issue. You can select one of the following methods:

  • Single Choice – Allocates items from bin locations when there is only one way of doing it. If there is more than one way to allocate items from bin locations, the single choice method is not effective.

The single choice method is applicable only in one of the following situations:

    • The item you need to issue exists only in one bin location.

In this case, there is no other way of issuing the item but from this bin location.

    • The item you need to issue exists in more than one bin location and the entire inventory of the item must be taken to fulfill the requirement.

In this case, there is no other way of issuing the entire inventory of the item but from all the bin locations.

    Example Example

    Example 1

You want to deliver item A with quantity 50 to a customer.

In your warehouse, you have 200 units of item A stored in bin location X.

In this case, even if your inventory greatly exceeds the committed quantity, you can pick 50 from bin location X.

If you select Single Choice as the method, SAP Business One automatically picks the items from bin location X for the delivery.

    Example 2

You want to deliver item B with quantity 100 to a customer.

In your warehouse, you have exactly 100 units of item B stored as follows:

    • Bin location Y: 60

    • Bin location Z: 40

In this case, you can pick 60 from bin location Y and 40 from bin location Z to fulfill the delivery.

If you select Single Choice as the method, SAP Business One automatically picks the items from the two bin locations for the delivery.

    End of the example.
  • Bin Location Code Order – Allocates items from bin locations according to the alphanumeric order of the bin location codes

  • Alternative Sort Code Order – Allocates items from bin locations according to the alphanumeric order of the bin locations' alternative sort codes

  • Descending Quantity – Allocates items from bin locations according to the descending order of the item quantity in the bin locations

  • Ascending Quantity – Allocates items from bin locations according to the ascending order of the item quantity in the bin locations

Enable Receiving Bin Locations

Select this checkbox to enable receiving bin locations for a warehouse.

Once receiving bin locations are enabled for a warehouse, you can designate any bin location as a receiving bin location by selecting the Receiving Bin Location checkbox in the Bin Location Master Data window.

During receipt of items, the receiving bin locations are used automatically to store the items received externally from your vendors or customers. For more information, see Automatic Bin Location Allocation in Receipts.

Receive Items By

Select the method by which items are received at receiving bin locations. You can select one of the following methods:

  • Bin Location Code Order – Receives items at receiving bin locations according to the alphanumeric order of the bin location codes

  • Alternative Sort Code Order – Receives items at receiving bin locations according to the alphanumeric order of the receiving bin locations' alternative sort codes
