Redlining 

Use

Redlining is used to mark or change drawings and models in order to give feedback. The markings, called markups in cFolders, are saved in layers.

Prerequisites

To be able to add comment and suggestions to the document file, you must have at least write authorization or administrator rights.

If the viewer does not display an original application file, first check that the file type is supported by looking in the tables under Engineering Client Viewer. If this file type is supported, check whether the ECL viewer has been installed properly on your PC. If you are unsure, contact your system administrator.

Activating Redlining

The redlining functions are available when you display a file of the document with the integrated ECL Viewer and select Tools B Redlining from the function bar.

Executing Redlining

You can write your comments onto the file as if you were using a red pen on transparencies over a drawing. This does not change the actual file. Your comments are saved as markups in a separate layer.

Markups

These are the remarks and comments that you create for a file. They are saved in a separate layer that you can also change.

Layers

Using layers is similar to laying a clear transparency over the document and making changes there. In this way, the original document is not overwritten.

Document and Layer Formats

Format	Notes
2D files	The layer is saved as a transparent vector format (*.CGM) for 2D files. A document can have any number of layers. In the ECL viewer, you can display as many documents and as many layers as you want on top of each other. The process is similar to laying transparencies on top of one another on an overhead projector. Assigning authorizations ensures that only authorized persons can create, change, or delete layers for documents. You can change or delete the information that is stored in a layer if you have write or administration authorization for the document. You can use the layer menu for easy processing of the individual layers.
3D files	The layer is saved as a *.VPL file. The system copies the 3D model into the redlining file the way it currently appears on the monitor (for example rotated on the X axis and with frames) as well as with the markups for your comments. Special redlining functions are available for 3D models, such as anchoring markups.
