Background documentationSet the Preferred Language for an Employee

In addition to setting the main store language, you can also set a different language for each employee in your store based on their preference. You can choose any language that has been installed with the system, or formally translated after installation.

Example Example

At a store where the main language is set as French, Helge who is German may choose to have the interface displayed in German while Pedro, a colleague, can choose Spanish. The system can switch the display language of the application to each employee’s preferred language when they sign on.

End of the example.

The following are locations in each application where you can set an employee’s preferred language.

  • Store ManagerEmployee Maintenance screen

  • Electronic Journal Viewer — If accessed from a command line, the language displayed is the language of the store. If a user accesses the Electronic Journal Viewer through the Store Manager application, then the Electronic Journal Viewer displays the employee's set language.

  • ConfiguratorEmployee Maintenance and User Access Maintenance screens

  • POS — Language files are downloaded from the Configurator application but the POS provides the Change Language function (Manager Code 433.) This allows an employee to change the language of the interface.

  • empxtxn.asc file — You can edit an employee’s record directly in the Transaction Employee file (empxtxn.asc)and download this file to the store.
