Process documentationEnd of Day Data Flow

The End of Day (EOD) process can be run from either a POS terminal or the Store Manager. The EOD process is as follows:

Process

  1. The server closes all unclosed terminals and checks for any duplicate ‘Close Store’ requests from other machines.

  2. The server prepares summary files for polling by depositing them into the \upload directory.

  3. The server copies its own TLOG into \keep0.

  4. The server posts the sd.* files to the Store Manager databases and renames sd.* files to sp.* files (that is, from Store Daily to Store Previous), and then zeros out the sd.* files.

  5. The server copies all files from \keep0 to \upload and increments \keep0 to \keep1, and so forth, up to the limit you specify (max 99). The server deletes the limit directory, then works its way down the chain (that is, it deletes \keep99, and then renames \keep98 to \keep99, and so forth).

  6. The server creates a new \keep0 directory for the next night’s files.

  7. The store’s State, Business Date, Sequence Number, Audit Totals, and so forth are zeroed out, and the information is posted to the event.log file in the \...\Xpress Server directory.

  8. The server clears out a terminal’s states, including its ‘open next day’ state.

  9. An endofday.trg file is created in the \upload directory to trigger the Head Office polling procedure.

  10. The server executes the EOD user script file (this is the field “End of Day Utility” in the Properties tab of the Xpress Server user interface).

  11. Each terminal displays “STORE CLOSED”.

Transferring TLOG Information to Head Office

TLOG information can be transferred in two ways:

  1. Real time trickle: Transaction data is trickled to SAP POS Store Data Transfer for Retail throughout the day.

  2. End-of-Day: The entire day's TLOG can be transferred in one file or one file per register.

For more information about how to transfer TLOG data to SAP POS Store Data transfer for Retail, POS DM or other Head Office applications, see the SAP POS Store Data Transfer for Retail Installation Guide and the SAP POS Store Data Transfer for Retail Security Guide.
