Object documentationAdvanced Layout Feature

The advanced layout feature at the POS terminal allows you to manipulate the screen elements to customize the look of the POS screen.

You can use the advanced layout feature to change the layout of the POS screen. You can add a screen saver, change the font style or size for text, add graphics, or modify the size or shape of the screen elements.

You can access the layout options through the shortcut menu, or through a manager code. When you select a screen element to modify, its location on the screen is highlighted in the inset window on the right side of the Advanced Layout screen.

Structure

Display Tab

You can use the functions on the Display tab page to change the appearance of elements on the screen. You can modify the shape of an element, add a 3D effect or change the size, position, or font of screen elements such as the prompt dialog, status bar, or function keys.

You can customize the appearance of each element individually, or you can apply changes to all the window elements at one time by performing any of the following actions:

  • Define the size and position of the POS screen — You can customize the dimensions of the POS screen and define its overall position in the viewing area by setting one of the following options. For example, you can size the POS screen to 50% of the available screen size and position it in the bottom right corner of the screen.

    • Full screen

    • Standard (640x480): Defines the screen size as 640 pixels by 480 pixels. If the POS monitor uses this resolution, the POS screen is full size.

    • Size to % of screen: The screen size is defined relative to the size of the full screen. If you select the Size to % of screen option, enter percentage values in the X and Y fields. These values represent the size of the POS screen relative to full screen. For example, if you enter 50 into the X field, the POS screen width is 50% of the full screen size.

The default settings are full screen, and the top left corner of the screen.

  • Add a background image to the POS screen — You can add a bitmap (.bmp) image to the background on the POS screen. You can use any Windows .bmp file. The default setting is no background.

  • Add an image to the POS screen — The POS screen can also display a static graphic image. The image appears by default in the top right corner of the POS screen in a graphic window element that you can add to the POS screen. To leave the image in the default position, you must first resize the POS menu buttons to make room for the image.

  • Add window elements to the POS screen — Not all of the available window elements are visible on the POS screen. You can add window elements, determine their position on the POS screen, and determine the position of text areas. An understanding of the advanced layout function can help you to add a new window element. If you make a mistake in the new setup, you can revert to the original layout settings by deleting the LAYOUT.UI0 file. This file is regenerated with the default settings when the POS is restarted.

  • Move POS screen elements around the screen — The Move function allows you to move window elements such as the prompt box, the transaction box, the receipt box, or the function keys to other areas on the POS screen.

  • Make a window element invisible — POS screen elements with an X beside their name in the options are visible on the POS screen. You can make an element invisible.

  • Change the font in a window element — You can apply a font type (including language), font style, and font size to individual window elements. Although there is an option on the Font Selection screen for font size, you cannot use it to change the font size.

    Note Note

If you are running a Thai language version of Windows and wish to modify POS display fonts using this tool, we recommend that you use the Courier_Mono_Thai font set to a size of 18pt. If you do not have this font installed, you can copy it to the font folder on your system from the 3rd party/fonts folder on the installation CD.

    End of the note.
  • Change the appearance of individual window elements — When you change the appearance of window elements individually, you can define the shape, 3D edge, size, and position.

  • Change the appearance of all window elements — You can change the shape, size, and style of window elements and their location on the screen. You can change the shape of all the window elements so they have either squared or rounded corners. The visible, 3D edge, and position options are not available when you make changes to all the window elements.

  • Change the size and position of window elements — The size and position of window elements are measured in pixels and is based on a standard 640x480 monitor screen. The pixel coordinates are displayed in the X and Y coordinate input fields. Understanding the X and Y coordinates can help you perform this function. We recommended that you make small changes to the X and Y coordinates to avoid moving the POS window elements beyond the monitor’s viewing boundary. (If this happens, you can reinstate the default POS screen layout settings by deleting the LAYOUT.UI0 file. The LAYOUT.UI0 file is regenerated when you restart the POS and the POS screen reverts to the default settings.)

  • Change menu buttons and function keys — Menu buttons and function keys appear side by side at the bottom of the screen. You can change the menu buttons as well as their location on the screen, layout, and shape.

  • Define the status indicators — You can customize the layout and size of status indicators, or remove them completely from the POS screen.

  • Set corner shapes for menu buttons and function keys — You can set the shape of each menu button or function key individually, or set the shape of all menu buttons or function keys at one time.

  • Reset corner shapes for menu buttons and function keys — You can reset the corner shapes for each menu button or function key to the default setting individually, or you can reset all menu buttons or function keys at once.

  • Customize text and colors for menu buttons and function keys — You can customize the text and background color of menu buttons and function keys one at a time.

  • Resetting the color for menu buttons and function keys — You can reset the color for each menu button or function key individually, or reset all menu buttons or function keys at once.

  • Set the background color for window elements — You can set the background color, the text color, and the highlighted text color of window elements. For example, you can change the highlighted text color in the receipt window to appear in different colors during a transaction void.
