In this release of SAP POS, a Suggested Selling feature has been added. The purpose of this feature is to increase the market basket size for a retailer. This feature is for “high-touch” retailers where sales associates can leverage the store IT infrastructure to recommend commonly needed solutions at the point of sale such as shoe wax for shoe sales, or assembly & warranty services for consumer electronic sales.
This feature is provided using a Transaction Object Component.
As items are scanned, the POS looks for any related suggested selling products and non-merchandise items in the suggested selling table and stores them in memory for later use.
When the scanning of items at the POS is complete and the cashier presses Total, the list of the top ten items (by amount or priority) in the suggested selling table is listed.
The cashier can select items by pressing the Toggle key and can complete the suggested selling mode by pressing Done.
Suggested selling is also implemented for the mobile POS. However unlike the POS, which prompts at the end of scanning, the cashier is prompted with suggested selling items each time a primary item is scanned.
Non-merchandise items can be suggested and the value of the non-mershandise fee can be set as a percentage of the primary item's price.
Unless the priority field is populated, the top ten suggested items will be displayed and sorted by decreasing price.
For the SAP POS, images can be displayed with items by lookup to a image directory either locally or on a shared drive.
Once the Component, “SAP SuggestedSelling” is registered on the Configurator, it will appear in the Component Name
drop down, found by selecting the External Components
button on the Code Maintenance
tab
in the Configurator.
Configuring Item Relationships for Suggested Selling
A new table and import file (SUGGTXN.ASC
) was created to store all the relationships between the primary item, that is the item that is scanned, and the suggested selling or non-merchandise items.
These relationships are managed in Store Manager.
Suggested selling of non-merchandise can be configured as a percentage of the primary item price and each item can be prioritized.
Setting Up Images to Display
If you choose to enable images to display in the Suggested Selling list, the following Configurator options must be selected/deselected:
Select Register Parameters
from the Terminal
tab of the Configurator and then select the General
tab and input the Root Path:
and the Image File
Extension:
The image directory structure for PLU items is based on the group and department hierarchy with a default image (default.jpg
) in case an image for the item or non-merchandise is not available.
The images for non-merchandise items are stored in the root of the image directory and stored in the #.jpg
format, where #
is the non-merchandise ID number. The default.jpg
image will be used
for any non-merchandise items that do not have a specific image.
