Procedure documentationConfiguring Bar Codes for Deli Scales

Procedure

This procedure provides information about configuring an Item Entry Control record for a bar code for a deli scale.

Details of this Example

This example shows the Item Entry Control configuration for a bar code for a scale that sends product weight and price information to a master scale third-party application (such as iCash) running on the POS Server.

The third party application creates an XML file that contains the scale transaction information. At the end of the transaction, all the weighed product items are packaged in one bag and a receipt showing a summary bar code is printed and attached to the bag. When the bar code for the package is scanned at the POS, information is once again retrieved from the third party application. The transaction details are listed on the receipt by PLU number, quantity sold, and price. The entire process is executed as soon as the receipt is generated at the scale so that the information can be processed at the POS by the time the customer is ready to cash out.

Note Note

The unit price, extended price, weight, and bar code are required in the TLog.

End of the note.
Creating an Item Entry Control Configuration for a Deli Scale Bar Code

To create an Item Entry Control configuration for a deli scale bar code, do the following:

  • Create an Item Entry Control record (Terminal > Item Entry Control) to execute manager code 721 for a deli bar code with the following settings:

    Note Note

The POS uses the transaction number embedded in the bar code to create the XML file name that resides on the server and requests the server to send this file to it. The format of the file name is as follows:

    TTTTDDMM.XML where

T is the external scale transaction number

D is the business date day

M is the business date month (numeric)

The POS also uses the PAN number from Item Entry Control to determine the transaction number. The Item Entry Control record also provides the bar code that was scanned or entered at the POS.

    End of the note.
  • Minimum Length = 13

  • Maximum Length = 13

  • Total Length = 13

  • PAN Start = 4

  • PAN Length = 4

  • Check Digit Start = 13 (Optional. Scanner should only send bar codes that have valid check digits.)

  • Check Digit End = 13 (Optional. Scanner should only send bar codes that have valid check digits.)

  • Check Digit ID = This is the ID number of the record that was defined in Check Digit configuration for EAN bar codes (Optional. Scanner should only send bar codes that have valid check digits.)

  • Keyboard Function = ADMINID

  • Function ID = 721

  • Scan Data Type = Any Scan Data Type

  • Allow For Keyed Entry = Enabled

  • Perform PLU = Disabled

  • Add MISC Record = Enabled
