Function documentationAccessing the Point of Sale

The POS client provides all the regular functions required to allow cashiers to access the system and to track their activity during the day.

Features

The following are the actions supported by the POS:

  • Log In and Log Out feature

The Log In feature is an administrative function which allows you to add or modify a cashier’s ID number, password and authority levels when they access the system. This feature is also supported by advanced password security features. Only cashier numbers that have been logged in can sign on to the POS. New cashiers must be logged in before they can use the terminal. This feature also provides an option to print a list of cashiers that are logged in. The cashier Log Out feature removes a cashier number or record from the system. Once a cashier is logged out, their cashier number is no longer valid to sign on. Transactionware functionality also allows a manager with the appropriate authority level to reset a cashier’s password.

  • Sign On and Sign Off feature

The Sign On and Sign Off feature is a security function that allows cashiers to access the POS and protects the POS from unauthorized users. A Sign On/Sign Off key can be mapped to a keyboard for quicker access to the system. The Sign On feature should not be confused with Cashier Log In.

  • Locking and Unlocking the register

This function locks the cash drawer when a cashier signs off. The Unlock function signs a cashier on and unlocks the cash drawer. Access to a locked register is limited to the cashier who locked the register, or to a cashier with a higher authority level (authority levels can be defined in the Configurator). The Locking and Unlocking function can also be assigned to the Sign On/Off key in the Configurator.

  • Exit POS

The Exit function allows the cashier to exit the POS application during a regular business day. If configured to do so, it will return the desktop to the screen.
