 Wild Card Search (New)

Technical Data

Product Version

SAP Point-of-Sale (POS) 2.3

Area

IS-R-TGM

Country Relevance

Valid for all countries

With this release, you can search for a retail product description using single or multiple wild card search terms in the PLU Description Search tool. The default wild card search character is an asterisk (*). The wild card search character must prefix the wild card search string. When you enter part of the product description along with the wild card character, the system returns all articles that match the search criteria. The wild card character matches any sequence of characters in the item description. You can then use the Up and Down keys to view and select a product from the display list.

Example Example

To perform a wild card sear for a string that begins with the search string, enter *<search string>*.

To perform a wild card search for a string that ends with the search string, enter **<seach string>.

To perform a wild card search for a stirng with the search string within, enter **<search string>*.

End of the example.

Note Note

You cannot search for items whose descriptions themselves contain the wild card search character. For example, if an item description itself contains an asterisk, then an asterisk included in the search string matches any character in the description, not just the asterisk.

End of the note.

Effects on Existing Data

The wild card search works for all languages currently supported by SAP POS.

Effects on Configuration

If you choose to use the asterisk as the wild card search character, no configuration changes are necessary for this feature.

If you do not wish to use the asterisk as the wild card character, you can configure a single character of your choosing to use as the wild card instead. To do this, specify a single character after the equal sign in your POS.INI file:

ITEM_SEARCH_WILDCARD_CHAR=

The system uses the single character you specify as the wildcard search character instead of the asterisk.
