With this release, the POS product suite is bundled with the Wily Introscope Enterprise Manager (Introscope) system monitoring tool. Introscope allows you to maintain the application in a non invasive way, eliminating the need for meetings. You can solve intermittent problems online without needing to reproduce the problem environment or replicate the problem. You can use Introscope to do the following:

  • Automate information gathering

  • Triage problems efficiently, so they can be escalated to the responsible organization

  • Manage performance and memory of live monitoring and comprehensive analysis

Effects on Data Transfer

  • Monitoring data is sent to the Solution Manager tool.

  • This feature requires additional Central Processing Unit (CPU) and network resources. If you wish to use Introscope for monitoring diagnostics, we recommend implementation at the minimum level to ensure optimal performance.

Effects on System Administration

  • You can use the workstation to view the monitoring information across the store chain and across the POS application in the Transnet, Returns Authorization (RA), Register Application, and Xpress components.

  • Previously, SAP POS applications were integrated with the AppSight troubleshooting tool. The AppSight and Introscope tools address different aspects of the application maintenance. See the table below for details:

AppSight

Introscope

  • Third party monitoring tool used to troubleshoot generic Windows applications

  • Records and plays back user actions

  • Records the stack trace of the application when it crashes

  • Used for monitoring information, for example, store information.

Effects on Configuration

  • To turn data collection on or off, create or update the introscp.asc file according to the instructions in the file itself. Send this file to the store or stores along with the newparm.trg file. Data collection becomes active or inactive depending on the settings in the introscp.asc file. The default parameters installed for Introscope have all reporting turned off.

  • You must have an SMD agent installed in the store. This agent sends the monitoring information to the Solution Manager tool.
