The SAP Point-Of-Sale (POS)
supports
peripheral devices such as MSR devices, scanners, scales, and price
verifiers. Depending on the manufacturer, some devices may require
specific POS drivers to work properly. SAP POS currently supports
the following peripheral devices. You can use manager code 2 to select
and activate any of the specific types listed below:
MSR devices — Generic MSR wedge
Scanners — Generic keyboard wedge, Simple RS232, RS232 ICL
MICR Readers — Checkmate keyboard wedge, Checkmate serial, Scanteam 8310 wedge
Keylocks — Generic wedge keylock
Scales — NCI 67xx scale, Toledo Mod1, RS232 Toledo, RS232 ICL
Keyboards — Standard keyboard, Gertec65 keyboard
Signature Capture devices — NCR 5991 Serial, Penware 3100, ICE6000, iPosTC, Optimum L4100
The Hypercomm ICE6000 and ICE6000plus are multifunctional devices
that can work as a signature capture device, pinpad, MSR, and customer
display device. The customer display portion of this device can run
a slide show featuring ads or images recorded in PCX format. The image
files download automatically to the POSWIN\PARM
directory of the POS and then to the ICE6000 device when you open
the terminal or when you issue a new parameter trigger. Alternately,
you can force them to download immediately by running manager code
414 (Copy Parms
), and then redefining
the peripherals using manager code 2.
Price Verifiers — NCR 7800
Card Reader/Writers — Octopus
The on-screen scale display feature provides a small rectangular window on the POS screen to display the weight of an item when the POS terminal is configured with a weigh-scale. This eliminates the need for pole-display hardware. When activated, this feature displays the weight of an item in pound or kilogram units until the item is removed from on the scale. The weight can be displayed up to three decimal places.
You can set up and activate the scale, as other POS-related peripheral hardware, by using manager code 2.
As for any screen element, you
can activate the on-screen display feature, or make changes to the
format or appearance of the screen by using the POS
Advanced Layout
change window. If the feature is turned
on but no scale hardware is defined in manager code 2, the 'No Scale
' message is displayed on the Display Options
and Peripheral Devices
46
screens. If required, you can also activate a secondary
scale display window for a customer CRT configuration.
The procedure to access the POS Advanced
Layout
change window is the same for the on-screen
scale display feature as for other window elements.
Currently the following scale brands can be supported by this feature:
NCR 7870, 7875 and 7880
PSC Magellan
Note
The Magellan scale beeps each time the POS terminal polls the scale for the weight of an item when an item is placed on the scale. This beeping can be turned off by scanning the scale barcode settings. This procedure must be repeated at each terminal with a scale.
Pin pad devices can be initialized on terminals with debit software by entering a designated manager code. Generally, you need to initialize pin pad devices only once during installation of the pin pad device.
