Procedure documentationConfiguring Bar Codes for Pre-Pack Processing

Procedure

You can configure the bar code for products that are sold in prepackaged format, such as deli meats or cheeses, to provide either the weight of the item, or its price. This eliminates the need for additional processing by the cashier. Based on the item entry type configured for the bar code, the POS application can determine whether the item price or weight must be calculated. This means that when the Item Entry type is set to Pre-Pack and the price is given, the weight is calculated. If the weight is given, the price is calculated. For detailed information on making Item Entry Control settings, see Item Entry Control.

Bar Code Configuration for Pre-Pack Processing

To configure pre-pack processing, you need to do the following:

On the Check Digit Maintenance screen, create a new check digit record using the following values. This is required for the price and weight data as well as for the entire bar code. For detailed information on using the Check Digit settings, see Check Digit Setup.

  • Weight: 5-2-55-2-50000000000000000000000000000000

    Note Note

Only the first 6 digits are required to process the weight check digit. However you need to completely fill the field because there is no other way to indicate the length of the data that must be checked. Apply the same weighting across the field until it is filled.

    End of the note.
  • Product Add Methods = Add Digits of Product

  • Divisor = 10

  • Remainder Options = Check Digit

  • Constant = 0

  • Calculate From Left = Enabled

  • Include Last Digit = Disabled

    Note Note

The PLU number of the item must be set as a scaled item. For more information about the PLU settings, see PLU File: General.

    End of the note.
General Implementation Notes Regarding the Bar Code

    • If the first 2 digits are 21, 22 ,23 or 27, then the extended price is embedded in the bar code

    • Article No. (4 digits)

    • Check digit verification number for weight or price in next field (1 digit)
