Object documentationMix Match

You use the Mix Match pricing feature to define discount pricing schemes based either on the sale of specific quantities of an item or a combination of items in a transaction. There are two ways to configure a mix-match pricing scheme:

  • By referencing a mix-match definition in the Mix Match field for the item in the PLU file. See PLU File: General for more information.

  • By selecting the Match By Merchandise Type option in Mix Match configuration. (When theAllow in Merchandise Type Mix Match option in the item PLU configuration is also enabled.)

An item can be assigned up to four mix-match pricing schemes.

Note Note

Mix-match pricing applies to the regular price of an item only if it is better than any other active promotion for the item.

You can apply a mix-match to the lowest priced item in a transaction by ordering the items in the mix-match definition by price and ensuring that the highest discounts are associated with the items at the top of the list.

End of the note.

You can configure a mix-match to be triggered when one of the following actions occurs:

  • A cashier enters an item specified in a mix-match at the cash

  • A cashier presses the TOTAL key after all items have been entered

  • The criteria defined for Transaction Level Pricing rules is met.

Complete MM

Activates the Complete Mix-Match condition.

A complete mix-match means that the exact number of items specified (sum of quantities in the quantity column) must be present in the transaction for the discount to be applied. When this option is not enabled, no preset number of items are required for the discount.

There are two ways to configure a Complete Mix Match:

  • Using the or more option in the Buy Quantity drop down field.

    Note Note

For this type of setting, you can only one Alt level.

    End of the note.

Example: Buy 3 or more for $1.00 each

  • Using the progressive option. In this type, every item is considered for the mix-match and the discount specified in each Alt level is applied. You can enter 999 in the Quantity field to include all items.

Threshold Amt

Identifies the transaction value at which the mix-match discount is applied. The discount is applied by the system if the transaction is greater than or equal to this value. The default value of this setting is zero.

Note Note

  • To use this option, you must also set the Calculation at Total Time option.

  • This option may be used with the Used by Trans. Level Pricing Rule option however the discount only applies to one instance of the discount-receiving item even if multiple quantities of the criteria items are present in the transaction.

End of the note.

Repeat Count (zero-All)

Indicates the number of occurrences of the mix-match discount that can be applied in the transaction. If this value is set to zero, all occurrences of a discount can be applied. The default value is zero.

Note Note

  • This option only applies to mix-match discounts defined with the Complete MM option enabled. A complete mix-match is one where a specified number of items must be purchased before a discount can be applied.

  • This option may be used with or without the Calculation at Total Time option.

  • This option does not apply to mix-matches configured with Buy Quantity criteria defined with an or more operator, or to progressive mix-matches. Progressive mix-matches are configured with the Complete MM setting disabled.

End of the note.

Discount on Lowest Price

When a mix-match is defined with a group of qualified items based on Item Hierarchy or Inclusion/Exclusion rules; and the Discount on Lowest Price parameter is enabled, the POS applies the discount on the lower priced item in the mix-match group.

This parameter is effective only if the Calculation at Total Time parameter is also enabled.

Example Example

The mix-match is configured to sell the 5th book for $0.01 where Calculation at Total Time and Discount on Lowest Price are enabled.

Alt 1: Qty=4

Alt 2: Qty=1, @ $0.01

Assume 6 books are scanned randomly:

  • Book 5: $5.00

  • Book 2: $2.00

  • Book 1: $1.00

  • Book 6: $6.00

  • Book 3: $3.00

  • Book 4: $4:00

Once TOTAL is pressed, POS sorts the list by descending price and then discounts the 1st book (lowest price).

  • Book 6: $6.00

  • Book 5: $5.00

  • Book 4: $4:00

  • Book 3: $3.00

  • Book 2: $2.00; discounted to $0.01

  • Book 1: $1.00

If 11 books are scanned randomly:

  • Book 5: $5.00

  • Book 2: $2.00

  • Book 1: $1.00

  • Book 6: $6.00

  • Book 3: $3.00

  • Book 4: $4:00

  • Book 7: $7.00

  • Book 10: $10.00

  • Book 9: $9.00

  • Book 8: $8.00

  • Book 11: $11.00

Once TOTAL is pressed, POS sorts the list by descending price and then discounts are applied to the 1st book of each qualifying group.

  • Book 11: $11.00

  • Book 10: $10.00

  • Book 9: $9.00

  • Book 8: $8.00

  • Book 7: $7.00; discounted to $0.01

  • Book 6: $6.00

  • Book 5: $5.00

  • Book 4: $4:00

  • Book 3: $3.00

  • Book 2: $2.00; discounted to $0.01

  • Book 1: $1.00

End of the example.

Apply Disc. to Alt

Specifies the items to which the discount can be applied. The options are:

  • None: The discount is applied to the last item that was discounted.

  • Apply Alt # 1...9: The discount is applied to the last item at the level specified.

  • Prorate: The discount is applied proportionately by price to every item in the mix-match.

  • As Defined: The discount is applied according to the defined levels.

Note Note

To use the Apply Discount to Alt option, you must also select the Complete MM option.

End of the note.

Policy

Specifies the text (set in a policy definition) to display to a cashier when a mix-match item is entered at the POS. This allows the cashier to communicate promotions to customers.

Report Group Qty

Specifies the quantity at which the mix-match should be tracked in the reports. This creates a mix-match transaction summary record in the TLog.

Match by Merchandise Type

Indicates that Match by Merchandise Type mix-match pricing is enabled. In this type of mix-match, a discount is applied only if the item in the transaction matches values defined in any of the following merchandise type criteria. If more than one criterion is specified, they must all match before the discount can be applied.

  • Vendor

  • User Flag 1

  • Department

  • Dept Group

  • Category

  • Inc/Exc: Identifies the group of items eligible or ineligible for the discount

Caution Caution

If no merchandise type values are provided for this parameter, the POS accepts any value in the PLU record and mix-match discounts are applied to any items that meet the quantity criteria.

End of the caution.

Vendor

Specifies the vendor in a Match by Merchandise Type mix-match

User Flag 1

Specifies customer-defined matching criteria in a Match by Merchandise Type mix-match

Department

Specifies the department in a Match by Merchandise Type mix-match

Dept. Group

Specifies the department group in a Match by Merchandise Type mix-match

Category

Specifies the category in a Match by Merchandise Type mix-match

Inc/Exc

Identifies the inclusion or exclusion rule set for the overall mix-match definition. When you assign an Inclusion/Exclusion rule to the mix-match, all items in the mix-match must satisfy this rule to qualify for the discounts. If this field is not set, or is set to zero, then any item that satisfies a primary condition for the mix-match can qualify all items for the mix-match.

Mix Match Pricing Details

Screen Element

Description

Buy Quantity

Specifies the quantity of an item required to qualify at a level. If the mix-match scheme is extended to additional quantities above the Buy Quantity amount, select the Or More (unit price) option in the Buy Quantity drop down field. When you do this, note that you can only use a single level for the discount. The Or More (unit price) option is used with the Complete MM option. When using the Or More (unit price) option, the Sell Price field in the first level can be set to the adjusted unit price.

The available choices are:

  • Or More Unit Price

  • Or More Extended Price

  • Or More % Off

Match Price

Specifies how the item price should be matched against the Match Price value. Select the appropriate option in the OP drop down list.

For example, if the match price value is set to $8.00 and the OP is set to < (less than), then in the transaction if $8.00 (Match Price value) is less than the regular price for an item, the item qualifies for a mix-match discount.

OP

Logical operator used to set comparison criteria for a transaction item measured against a condition in a defined rule. The available operators are:

  • < (less than)

  • <= (less than or equal to)

  • = (equal to)

  • > (greater than)

  • >= (greater than or equal to)

In/Ex

Allows you to configure a mix-match by choosing an Inclusion/Exclusion rule that is specific to the item Alt level. This allows you to configure mix-match deals that require items to be purchased across many different groups of items and is useful in the following situations:

  • More than one group of items has been configured in the system, and a certain quantity from each group must be purchased to qualify for the discount. For example, buy one coffee and one doughnut and receive a free newspaper.

  • Purchases are required from one set of items with further restrictions on discounts for subsequent items. The key characteristic is that the group of items specified for the different levels of the mix-match overlap and the discount should be applied to the lower-priced items. For example, buy any one brand of running shoes and receive a 50% discount on a second item of the same brand (but not running shoes) of equal or lesser value.

Note Note

The Inclusion/Exclusion IDs that correspond to the individual Alt levels are only enabled if the Calculation At Total Time option is also set.

End of the note.

Sell Price

Specifies the selling price for the level

$Off

Specifies the dollar amount to be deducted for the alternate price

%Off

Specifies the amount to be deducted as a percentage of the total value

Pricing Target Type

Defines a specific audience for the pricing scheme
