A pending transaction is one that is started but not completed on the same day. For example, a layaway sale is a type of pending transaction because a customer puts money down and makes installment payment towards the purchase of an item but does not take the item home until after it is fully paid for. In the meantime, the transaction remains open and is tracked by the POS.
