Discount: Data Capture

These options allow you to define the prompts associated with a specific discount promotion type. Prompts are messages that appear on a cashier’s terminal either as a reminder to perform a specific task during the transaction or as a request to ask the customer a specific question and enter their response into the system. You can set up the following types of prompts for discount promotions:

Reference Number prompts: Prompt the cashier to enter a reference number for the discount item (for example, authorization code and item series number).
Choice prompts: Prompt the cashier to make a selection identifying a specific feature of the a discount item.
Profile prompts: Display a prompt to the cashier when they press the discount key.

Reference No
Screen Element	Description
Prompt	Allows you to define a message that prompts the cashier to manually enter a reference number related to the discount item. The text message can be up to 20 characters long. Note If you need more than one prompt to gather all the required information, use the Profile Prompt option. For more information, see Profile Prompts. End of the note.
Minimum/Maximum No	Allows you to set the length of the reference number defined by the minimum and maximum number of characters. For example, a reference number that could be up to 5 digits long has a minimum length of `1` and a maximum length of `5`.
Check Digit	Allows you to validate the reference number entered at the POS for this discount item; choose the check digit function you want to use from the drop down list. For more information about check digit functions, see Check Digit Setup.
Print Reference Prompt	Allows you to have the text of the reference number prompt printed on the receipt.

Choice Type
Screen Element	Description
Choice Type	Allows you to choose the choice type option to be triggered by the discount item. When you use this prompt, the cashier must enter or select a specific detail regarding the discount item. For more information, see Choices.

Profile Prompt
Screen Element	Description
Profile Prompt	Allows you to choose the profile prompt option to be triggered by the discount item. This field determines whether a prompt is displayed when the cashier presses the discount key. For more information, see Profile Prompts.
