POS Literals

The Literals files contain all the prompt messages that are displayed and/or printed by the system. The POS Literals contain messages for the POS terminal, while the Back Office Literals files contain messages that are displayed on the head office system. Each message can be modified to support custom language or terminology requirements of the local operating environment through the LitEditW utility, which supports this function.

The literals are displayed in two columns. The information in the left column is the master text and cannot be modified. Master text content comes from a file called master.lit and it is the default English literal file.

You can load any required language literal file into the right column by choosing Start of the navigation path File Next navigation step Open End of the navigation path on the menu bar, and choosing the required literal file, for example german.lit.

Once the required literal file is loaded, you can create a customized version of the language literal file by modifying any displayed message. To do so, highlight it and press Enter. Enter the modified text, then press Enter again to update it.

Save the changes by choosing Start of the navigation path File Next navigation step Save End of the navigation path

Note Note

Over time, master.lit may be updated with new literal messages. When this occurs, the default literal file for each supported language is also updated with the new messages. You need to update your customized version of the required language literals file to apply the new literal messages.

To do this, you use a utility called mkascii to merge the default literal file contents with the customized version file. When this is completed, you can use the POS Literals function to modify the new literals as required.
